POSITION DESCRIPTION: SCHOOL HEALTH - REGISTERED NURSE

Reports to: Director of Business
Type: Part-Time (negotiable), 11 months
Classification: Hourly, Non-Exempt (dependent upon Type)
Department: Upper/Lower Academies
Direct Reports: None
Office Hours: 7:15 am – 3:15 pm and other hours as needed

Position Summary
Responsible for providing oversight to the health services of NCS and promoting health and safety for all students.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide consultation on communicable disease, immunization compliance, and medication administration in the school setting.
  • Monitor student medication inventory and records, and administer medications as prescribed by the student’s physician and in accordance with established protocols and policies.
  • Provide case management and chronic disease management for students.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate health care plans of students.
  • Maintain accurate student medical information ensuring timely updates and confidentiality of information.
  • Serve as a part of the 504 Plan Team to review and renewal plans in conjunction with the associated team and disseminate update plan information appropriately.
  • Train and delegate nursing tasks to non-licensed personnel.
  • Collaborate with school staff, physicians, families, and community partners to obtain services for families and students.
  • Provide training, supervision and consultation to school staff regarding health issues.
  • Ensure PPE is in stock and available for staff and students.
  • Perform home visits to families as needed.
  • Work with the Leadership and Counseling teams to best meet student needs.
  • Promptly respond to all communication within 48 hours.
Education, Licenses & Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing
  • Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse as issued by the NC Board of Nursing
  • Two (2) years or more of school health nursing, pediatric nursing or public health experience
  • Valid NC driver’s license

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Google Suite (Mail, Docs, Calendar, Drive). Willingness and capacity to embrace and learn new technology.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills with an approachable, supportive, and welcoming demeanor.
  • Able to support and articulate the school’s mission, goals and objective in a positive and inspirational manner.
  • Manages confidential information with discretion and care, particularly as it relates to students, in accordance with FERPA and all influencing regulations.
  • Relates well with all types of people, attentive and active listener; patience to hear others out and build rapport with dignity and tack; works collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Able to work effectively in a deadline-driven, multi-priority environment; exhibits effective time management skills and appropriate resource management; communicates interferences and delays to supervisor.
  • Uses logical methods to solve problems while producing effective solutions; probes all appropriate resources for solutions; takes initiative to identify and improve programs, systems, and processes.
Physical Requirements & Work Conditions
This position requires:
  • Normal periods of sitting and standing in an office environment.
  • Extended periods of standing and walking on school campus.
  • Reaching with hands and arms and operating hand-held and desktop office equipment on a regular basis.
  • Lifting and/or pushing objects up to 10 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Lifting and/or pushing objects up to 20 lbs. on an occasional basis.
  • Normal vision (with or without correction).
  • Normal hearing (with or without correction).
Majority of work is performed inside an office building and temperature controlled. Level of noise is usually moderately quiet.
