POSITION:
Maintenance/Custodian/Grounds Person
Hours M-F, 5:30AM-2:00PM
START DATE: February 10th, 2025 or sooner.
BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under the direct supervision of the site principal and with direction from the director of maintenance to do semi- skilled work in the maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment; to keep assigned rooms, buildings, or office space clean and orderly; to perform grounds maintenance and gardening work.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Adhere to all applicable laws, rules and regulations of the state, county, and the Nevada City School
District.
- Perform maintenance tasks, combining skills and knowledge of more than one building trade (i.e., plumbing,
- electrical, carpentry, small motor repair, painting, etc.)
- Construct/assemble shelving, cabinets, and other items as assigned.
- Responsible for periodic inspections of all equipment necessary to the proper functioning of all school sites.
- Perform regular preventive maintenance to district facilities.
- Will be assigned to different locations as needed.
- Perform routine custodial duties as scheduled by the Director of Maintenance.
- Maintain all equipment in good running order.
- Prepare and maintain records of material usage.
- Perform routine grounds up-keep duties as scheduled by the Director of Maintenance. (Examples of duties: mowing, trimming, edging of lawns, lawn and flower irrigation, maintenance of lawns, trees and shrubs, hoeing weeds, raking leaves, sweeping walks and general grounds maintenance).
- Assist in the preparation, maintenance and lining of baseball diamonds, football fields, tracks and other athletic fields.
- Operate vehicles and power driven equipment such as tractors, power lawnmowers, trimmer, edgers, leaf blowers and similar types of mechanical equipment used in grounds maintenance work.
- Set up auditorium or classrooms for special events or meetings.
- Raise and lower flags as required.
- Repair work on doors, windows, roofs floors and other building parts.
- Service, lubricate, clean and keep equipment in good repair.
- Perform custodial work as required.
- Shall immediately report any unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
- Perform interior and exterior painting.
- Manage daily lunchroom duties as required.
- Perform any other position related duties as required or assigned.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARD:
Knowledge of:
- Simple record keeping and record management
- Acceptable methods of cleaning and preserving floors, walls, and fixtures; cleaning materials, disinfectants, and common tools and equipment used in custodial work.
- Acceptable methods of use of supplies, tools, equipment, and site upkeep.
Ability to:
- Work collaboratively and professionally with co-workers, families and students.
- Demonstrates patience, enthusiasm, and compassion with students.
- Perform possible emergency first aid care and summon assistance.
- Use confidential information with discretion.
- Learn to use current technology as required to complete tasks as assigned.
- Understand and carryout oral and written instructions in an independent manner.
- Quickly learn schedules, procedures, and tools needed to perform all duties.
- Read and understand material safety data sheets.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Associates degree or 48 units preferred.
- Experience working with children in an educational setting preferred.
- Two (2) years of custodial or grounds maintenance experience.
- Equivalent experience may be substituted or waived at the discretion of the superintendent or designee.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must successfully pass live scan background check and T.B. clearance.
- Must pass a proficiency test administered by the district.
- Position requires moderate physical exertion associated with the ability to lift, carry, push, pull, crawl, or climb.
- Lifting up to 50 pounds (lbs.) maximum or carry any object weighting 25 lbs.
- Complete required mandated trainings.
- Must successfully pass CPR and First Aid Training.
- Possession of an appropriate, valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Must satisfactorily pass a district required medical examination.
- Positions in this category require physical ability associated with prolonged periods of heavy physical labor.
- Use of ladders inside and outside of buildings.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.35 - $23.54 per hour
