Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). The Electro-Mechanical Technician I will be responsible for working within a team of scientists and engineers within ASD to install accelerator systems, structures, and components; support startup and checkout of complex electrical and pulsed power systems; and support controls integration and verification activities. The work will be located at both North Las Vegas and the Nevada National Security Site for approximately the first two years and then will transition entirely to the Nevada National Security Site. The selected candidate will be responsible for integrating into the operations team, including training to become an accelerator operator and part of the accelerator maintenance teams in order to support the U.S. Stockpile Stewardship Program.
Key Responsibilities
Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4 , “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709 , “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the installation, configuration, troubleshoot, and maintain vacuum systems associated with multiple regions of the Scorpius accelerator.
- Work as part of a team of engineers, physicists, and technologists from the labs and the NNSS to install and operate Scorpius and possibly Z-pinch Experiment Underground System (ZEUS), high-energy x-ray and neutron generating devices, along with associated diagnostics systems and detector systems.
- Support multiple internal and external organizations to install, align, operate, and commission subsystems of the overall Scorpius accelerator in North Las Vegas and NNSS forward areas.
- Support outside vendor to operate high voltage pulsers to test and characterize accelerator modules in Area 6 of the NNSS prior to final installation at PULSE.
- Frequent travel to New Mexico to assemble, test, and align cells and modules of the Scorpius linear induction accelerator ultimately being installed at the Principal Underground Laboratory for Subcritical Experiments (PULSE) at the NNSS.
- Frequent travel to the NNSS forward areas will be required (approximately 30 miles beyond the Mercury gate).
- Perform other duties assigned by Management.
- High School diploma or equivalent. Some vocational training preferred.
- Experience with vacuum systems, including leak detection techniques, is recommended.
- Experience with electrical components, circuitry, the building up and hand wiring of circuit boards, soldering, AC/DC electronics, basic hand tools, electronic test and measurement equipment, and basic electronic troubleshooting.
- Experience working in a team environment that includes scientist, engineers, technicians, and designers.
- Experience in the use of basic and powered hand tools, must have a working knowledge of a variety of laboratory instrumentation such as digitizing storage, DVMs, and oscilloscopes.
- Experience using standard office software products.
- Must be competent in basic electronic work and optical work including Fiber optics.
- Ability to work underground is required.
- Ability to effectively deal with pressures of deadlines and multiple tasks.
- Ability to work well with others, as this position will regularly interface with team members, other teams and outside organizations.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, work independently, and work as part of a team.
- The primary work location will be the Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada.
- Work schedule for this position will be 4/10’s, Monday – Thursday (subject to change).
- Limited travel is required.
- Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
