Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). The Engineering Programs Division is looking for a highly motivated individual, with an attention to detail to be a Principal Technologist.
Key Responsibilities
Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4 , “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709 , “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

Annual salary range for this position is: $81,681.60 - $122,532.80.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform inspections on pressure vessels, boilers, and other pressure-retaining equipment according to the National Board Inspection Code (NBIC), ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Federal and Jurisdiction code and standards.
- Review and verify boiler, pressure vessel and pressure system code required activities implementation and applicability of the manufacturers written quality control system.
- Witness of all required leak tests to ensure compliance with applicable sections of the ASME Code, the National Board Inspection Code, Jurisdictional and MSTS requirements.
- Create and maintain inspection records that documents all inspection activities, findings and any potential safety concerns.
- Participate in meetings, walkdown and assist in developing procedures, work plans, and work control documents on pressure safety requirements of a particular work situation.
- Perform field testing or bench testing of pressure relief valves as per BPVC and NBIC requirements.
- Review inspection criteria for compliance to applicable sections of the design standards for alterations and repairs to standard BPVs.
- Assist, as assigned, in official BPV code and standard interpretations and decisions.
- Establish the inspection intervals for standard BPVs in accordance with NAC 455C.
- Serve as the lead evaluator for 1E00P520, “Boiler Safety Training Practical Evaluation.”
- Maintain training, qualifications and competency in the pressure safety field.
- Assist, as assign, in Lightning Protection inspections, code and standard interpretations and decisions.
- Assist, as assign, in Electrical Safety inspections, code and standard interpretations and decisions.
- Perform other duties related to mechanical and electrical system as assigned by Management.
- Associate degree in field related to the position plus at least 9 years’ progressive related experience or High School diploma plus 11 years’ progressive related experience.
- Certified National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NBBI) or equivalent.
- Current knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and criteria pertinent to the position.
- Ability to interpret codes and standards applicable to the position.
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment on a wide variety of tasks is critical.
- Working knowledge of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC), ASME B31 series of codes for pressure piping, National Board Inspection Code, NB-23, and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) (various).
- Quality Assurance and/or Controls experience desired.
- The primary work location will be at the Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada, with travel to the NNSS, located in Mercury, Nevada (65 miles northwest of Las Vegas).
- Schedule is designated as 4/10s (Monday - Thursday).
- Overtime may be required.
- Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
