Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Our MISSION is to help ensure the security of the United States and its allies by providing high-hazard experimentation and incident response capabilities through operations, engineering, education, field, and integration services and by acting as environmental stewards to the Site’s Cold War legacy. Annual salary range for this position is: $66,248.00 - $99,382.40
Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.

THIS IS A CASUAL POSITION WORKING A MAXIMUM 900 HOURS PER CALENDAR YEAR.
Key Responsibilities
- Work in support of senior Geology Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) of the Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation - Data & Diagnostics group in the Global Security Directorate.
- Work as part of a team performing 24/7 geologic support during drilling operations.
- Assist in oversight of borehole geophysical logging operations, and other geologic fieldwork as assigned.
- Assist in researching, compiling and analyzing geologic data.
- Assist in management of project-specific relational databases of drill hole information, including construction data, geologic data, geophysical log data, and sample data.
- Contribute to solutions of problems and issues with limited scope and basic complexity, using a well-defined set of technologies, generally in support of more senior scientists. Solutions use established basic standards, practices and procedures as well as technical knowledge to address problems and complete tasks.
- Focus is on applying academic knowledge to the work environment and developing good work/team habits.
- Define specifications for procurements and initiates purchase requests.
- Follow established technical procedures and instructions.
- Assist in compiling and summarizing scientific data. Utilizes technology solutions for both experimental and operational needs.
- Prepares reports. Contributes to proposals.
- Perform other duties assigned by Management.
Due to the nature of our work, US Citizenship is required for all positions.
- Bachelor’s degree in a calculus-based (STEM) field. Skill building experience must demonstrate either deeper technical specialization or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge. Graduate research experience may be recognized.
- Ability to employ recognized scientific methods.
- Experience with drilling operations and data collection preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with electronic databases is preferred.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint and Datamine Products preferred.
- Ability to execute work in a disciplined manner to demonstrate compliance with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures.
- Ability to prioritize and schedule multiple activities in the most efficient manner and meet required deadlines.
- Be team-oriented with good communication skills. Able to work closely with a diverse group of scientists and engineers.
- The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada).
- Work schedule will be 4/10s Monday through Thursday. (subject to change)
- Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
