The Nevada National Security Site Protective Force is currently seeking resumes for the position of Security Police Officer I (SPO I) - Basic Readiness (BRS).

This armed SPO I Basic Readiness as defined in 10 CFR 1046 and DOE Orders is a position responsible for:

Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level) and Human Reliability Program (reference 10 CFR Part 712, “Human Reliability Program”) certification. Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

This armed SPO I Basic Readiness as defined in 10 CFR 1046 and DOE Orders is a position responsible for:
- Works under general supervision to protect the Nevada National Security Site security interests and property from theft, vandalism, illegal entry, and other acts that may adversely impact national security or the health and safety of NNSS employees.
- The control of entry and exit of cleared and uncleared personnel and vehicles into Protected or Material Access Areas and Limited Areas. Conducts Property, prohibited Article and searches of personnel. Monitors and searches personnel, packages, and vehicles to ensure prohibited items are not brought in or materials are not removed.
- Operate Patrol Vehicle (Truck) and all Protective Force issued equipment.
- Be physically fit and maintain physical fitness requirements.
- Provides armed responses and resolves security incidents and alarms.
- Escorts sensitive materials.
- Utilizes specialized operational equipment to include: x-ray machines, metal detectors, nuclear material monitors, and fighting positions.
- Participates in Force-on-Force Exercises and other performance testing requirements as well as must complete annual required training.
- Performs lock and door checks on remote locations.
- Conducts daily checks on personal issue equipment (firearm, protective vest and mask, etc.) and post equipment to ensure it is functioning properly.
- Visual Acuity (e.g. needed to prepare and analyze data, transcribe documents, to view a computer, to read, to inspect objects, to operate a vehicle).
- Balancing (e.g. maintain equilibrium when walking, climbing, crouching, ect.).

Due to the nature of our work, US Citizenship is required for all positions.
- High School diploma or GED (minimum)
- Two (2) years or more of higher education is preferred.
- Prior military service and/or work experience in uniformed security/law enforcement agency is desired.
- Ability to meet 10 CFR 1046 SPO I Basic Readiness requirements.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow instructions in English.
- Must complete and maintain SPO I Basic Readiness Certification.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must be physically fit and maintain physical fitness requirements.
- Must be willing to work underground.
- Must be willing & able to wear a Respirator & Pass a mask fit.
- Able to manage working at multiple sites - the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada) and the Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada.
- Positions will require the ability to work various shifts, Monday through Sunday, based on mission requirements. Shift work is required.
- Pre-placement physical examination which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- All training requirements, testing, and weapons qualifications for Tactical Response Force 100 (TRF-100) (8 weeks)
- Site Specific Initial Training (SSIT) (6 weeks)
- Probationary period of twenty-four (24) weeks following SSIT
- Obtain “Q” Clearance and Human Reliability Program (HRP)
- Ability to meet 10 CFR 1046 SPO I Basic Readiness requirements. Must be able to qualify with different weapons systems and be physically fit and maintain physical fitness requirements.

- SPO BRS – Successful completion of all training and has a “Q” Clearance and HRP.
