Position Summary: The spring positions are 900 hours, 40 hours a week . The schedule is Mon.-Fri. 8:00 am-4:00 pm Hours a weekend as needed, and days may vary during summer camps. The Spring Outdoor Educator will deliver and assist with planning, coordination, and outreach of all Nevada Outdoor School educational programs including field trips, summer camps, special events, and Outdoor Ethics in Elko and surrounding areas. Various environmental training will be offered to the member and CPR training.
Primary Responsibilities: Deliver Outdoor Ethics programming at special events, plan and facilitate successful field trips , summer camp programs, plan and teach all activities for weekend volunteer stewardship projects, gather/obtain and keep tidy all necessary educational supplies.
Related Responsibilities: Enter participant numbers into the database and help to compile monthly direct results reporting, assist with the development and utilize needs assessment tools and/or evaluations, promote Nevada Outdoor School's educational program through various forms of media - via media, assist in recruiting volunteers for educational programs as required, assist in recruiting youth for elective programs, attend trainings, seminars and/or conferences related to service objectives and career development, participate in NOS community and special events.
Qualifications: Age 17 or older, basic computer skills, flexible work schedule, self-motivated and flexibility in working in a multi-task environment, ability to work on a team, current Driver's license required, ability to communicate and work with a diverse population, experience working with children, enjoy the outdoors.
Required Academic: GED/high school diploma. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or agree to earn a high school diploma or equivalent before using an educational award.
Term of Service and Time Requirements: Full-time 900 hours term. Start date 01/16/25 - 07/15/25. This is a 6 months Term.
Service environment description: Service members will be preparing lessons in an office setting and driving NOS trucks to school sites in Humboldt and Elko counties. Field trips and summer camps will be conducted outdoors and may be subject to sudden changes in weather. The functions of this position may be completed with or without reasonable accommodations. AmeriCorps members are expected to wear AmeriCorps gear while serving, including provided shirts or buttons. Dress is business casual. Members must disclose all criminal convictions during the application process; undergo a National Service Criminal History Check and for it not to report any statutory exclusionary offenses to AmeriCorps service; must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States; and must be at least 17 years of age at the commencement of service.
AmeriCorps members will receive a stipend of $2,066.66 month and are eligible to receive a post-service education award upon successful completion of service of $3,697.50; student loan forbearance and interest payments, if the member qualifies; health care and child care are available for eligible members; and professional development opportunities are available. AmeriCorps members will receive CPR and First Aid training.
