Job Description
Nevada State University's Office of Human Resources is searching for its next detail-oriented, organized, and compassionate Benefits and Wellness Coordinator. The ideal candidate will seek to make a meaningful impact in a dynamic and service-oriented HR environment. This new team member will provide essential support to our employees through thoughtful benefits and leave administration. The Benefits and Wellness Coordinator will have a unique opportunity to create and implement robust benefits, wellness and leave programs while serving as a trusted resource for employees.

Primary Responsibilities:
Benefits Administration
- Administers employee benefits programs, including multiple group health, dental, life, disability, and other programs.
- Interprets various plan designs and documents to relevant parties.
- Coordinates and/or leads outreach and educational programs (e.g., pre-retirement seminars, open enrollment, EAP).
- Investigates and resolves complex benefits-related issues and responds to queries and requests.
- Conducts one-on-one consultations, both in-person and virtually, to advise and inform employees regarding the university's benefits and retirement plans.
- Collaborates with state, third-party vendors, and internal HR representatives to gather information, resolve benefits-related issues, and ensure accurate plan administration.
- Inputs and tracks benefits-related data into university and other systems to ensure seamless benefits enrollments.
- Works closely with employees over extended periods to ensure all required documentation is submitted timely and correctly.
- Develops and delivers new hire benefits orientations and open enrollment information sessions for all benefits-eligible employees.
- Serves as the university's Workday Benefits Subject Matter Expert (SME), attend all meetings and assist with all benefits-related system testing as needed due to system upgrades/modifications.
- Maintains the HR Benefits webpage to ensure accuracy and relevance.
- Delivers exceptional customer service with empathy and patience, supporting employees through potentially complex life events.
Leaves of Absence Management
- Advises employees on Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Nevada Paid Family Leave (NPFL) eligibility, military leave, and other leaves of absence.
- Consults with employees regarding their needs for leave and/or modified work schedules from initiation to resolution.
- Coordinates all FMLA, NPFL, and other leaves of absence actions between employees, managers, and external vendors.
- Assists employees with leaves of absence paperwork, access leave eligibility, designate leave appropriately, and calculates, monitors and tracks intermittent and reduced schedule leave usage.
- Serves as the university's Workday Absence Management Subject Matter Expert (SME), attend all meetings and assist with all absence management-related system testing as needed due to system upgrades/modifications.
- In consultation with CHRO/ADA Officer, works to resolve complex employee leave and ADA matters.
Wellness
- Assists with the creation and implementation of employee wellness programs.
- Provides employee wellness presentations and workshops.
- Deliver university-wide wellness events and activities.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- 3-4 years of employee benefit administration experience; including health insurance, retirement, and leave programs.
- Knowledge and understanding of HIPAA, ACA, ADA, FMLA, and related Federal and State laws, guidelines, regulations, and standards applicable to an academic and/or workplace setting.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and multitasking skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills with solid professional judgment.
- Proficiency with commonly used concepts, practices and procedures in benefits administration.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex information clearly.
- Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential data and situations with empathy, professionalism, discretion, and tact.
- Ability to research problems, apply analytical techniques, and follow through on issues to resolution.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a hybrid setting, respecting colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
- Service orientation with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with university employees and external stakeholders.
- Ability to demonstrate ownership of areas of responsibility with an aptitude to anticipate and proactively execute tasks while identifying areas of enhancement, efficiencies, and solutions, as needed.
- Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint presentations and Excel reporting.
- Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).

Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional in Human Resources Certification (PHR) or Society for Human Resources Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or related.
- Experience with FMLA and ADA case management.
- Experience working in a higher education HR Benefits environment
- Experience with Workday
Salary & Benefits
Budgeted salary for this position is $59,186. Nevada State University offers excellent benefits, including 17.50% retirement match, 24 annual leave days, beginning balance of 30 sick leave days, 12 paid holidays, educational benefits, and three health insurance plans that can be supplemented with flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts.
