Job Description

Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Scholarship Specialist. The Scholarship Specialist will administer Nevada State University Foundation Scholarships, assist the Bursar's Office with third-party scholarships, and support the Scorpion Academic Scholarship Program. This position ensures accurate awarding, compliance, and coordination with internal and external partners to optimize scholarship utilization and promote student enrollment and retention.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Administer Nevada State University Foundation Scholarships by publishing applications, maintaining the scholarship management system, reviewing submissions, verifying eligibility, awarding funds, and ensuring compliance with donor requirements and institutional policies.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports for Advancement and Financial Aid leadership.
  • Assist the Bursar's staff in processing and reconciling third-party scholarship payments by verifying eligibility, tracking awards, and resolving discrepancies with external sponsors.
  • Collaborate with the Provost's enrollment management team, Admissions and Recruitment staff, and Financial Aid staff to ensure award information for the Scorpion Academic Scholarship Program is accurate and properly processed. Track scholarship offers and utilization over time and make recommendations regarding awarding levels and strategies.
  • Maintain scholarship records, track fund utilization, and generate compliance and performance reports. Monitor compliance with donor agreements, institutional policies, and financial aid regulations.
  • Advise students and families on scholarship opportunities, application processes, and eligibility requirements. Participate in outreach activities to promote scholarship programs and increase awareness.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of new scholarship initiatives or enhancements to existing programs. Provide administrative support for special projects, including data collection, reporting, and program evaluations.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in higher education, public administration, business management, finance, information systems or similar.
  • One year of related professional experience.
  • Understanding of federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations and proficiency in using student information systems (e.g., PeopleSoft) to manage awards and records.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as the Division of Advancement, Bursar's Office, Provost's enrollment management team, and Admissions and Recruitment staff, as well as external partners, including third-party scholarship providers.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of scholarship policies, procedures, and compliance requirements, including donor restrictions, award criteria, and reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in tracking, analyzing, and reporting scholarship data to ensure accuracy, compliance, and transparency in fund utilization.
  • Strong interpersonal and advising skills to support students and families in navigating scholarship opportunities and resolving related issues.
  • Ability to independently prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and resolve issues related to scholarship processing and reporting.

Salary & Benefits

Budgeted salary for this position is $52,197. Nevada State University offers excellent benefits, including 17.50% retirement match, 24 annual leave days, beginning balance of 30 sick leave days, 12 paid holidays, educational benefits, and three health insurance plans that can be supplemented with flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts.
