Job Description

Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Student Worker - Early Childhood Education - Literacy Tutor. The student worker will support the early literacy development of children ages 3-5, working with teachers and staff in the Nevada State Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC).

Core Responsibilities :

  • Support and lead early literacy activities through individual and small-group tutoring.
  • Collaborate with lead teacher(s) to support literacy instruction daily lesson plans.
  • Aid literacy skills assessment and progress monitoring.
  • Work with families to support literacy development.
  • Promote a culturally responsive learning environment to support all children.
  • Maintain confidentiality of children and family records.
  • Minimum Qualifications :

  • Must be in good academic standing and maintain a cumulative Nevada State GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must be enrolled as a degree seeking student with a minimum of 6 credits in the current or upcoming semester at Nevada State.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).
  • Must qualify for Federal Work Study as determined by the Nevada State University Office of Financial Aid, based on the results of the FAFSA®.
  • Must be a program-admitted student in the School of Education (Teacher Education or Speech Pathology).
  • Successfully completed at least one School Education Literacy Course.
  • Agree to have literacy faculty serve as a reference.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Must take a TB test.
  • Ability to work 19.5 hours per week (9 : 00 am-3 : 00 pm).
  • Ability to follow instructions and learn and apply procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple duties.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

    Preferred Qualifications :

  • Must be a program-admitted student in the School of Education (Teacher Education or Speech Pathology).
  • Work Hours :

    This position will work 19.5 hours per week.

    Hourly Rate : 14.00 per hour.
