NEW Accounting & Consulting is a fast-growing firm dedicated to providing comprehensive accounting, bookkeeping, and consulting services to small businesses in the St. Louis area. We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional service and fostering strong, long-lasting client relationships.

As we continue to expand, we are transitioning to a pod-based team structure to enhance collaboration, efficiency, and client service. NEW Accounting is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant to aid in this process and join our team. As a Senior Accountant, you will lead a pod team, oversee client accounting activities, ensure high-quality financial reporting, and serve as the primary point of contact for a group of small business clients. This role requires strong technical accounting skills, leadership abilities, and process improvement expertise to guide the team and drive financial accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

Client Financial Oversight & Reporting

Oversee financial statement preparation and analysis, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
Ensure accuracy in bank and credit card reconciliations, transaction classifications, and month-end close processes.
Provide financial insights and recommendations to improve business performance and internal controls.
Manage loan amortizations, accruals, prepaids, depreciation, and other adjusting journal entries in accordance with GAAP.
Guide clients in preparing budgets, cash flow projections, and Work-in-Progress (WIP) analyses where applicable.
Ensure multi-entity financial reporting for clients with multiple locations or business divisions (e.g., Alvarado Healthcare, Homestead Veterinary).

Pod Leadership & Mentorship

Lead and mentor pod team members, ensuring they develop professionally while delivering high-quality work.

Oversee task delegation and workflow, ensuring all accounting processes are completed efficiently and on time.

Conduct regular check-ins and provide training to help team members grow in their roles and improve accounting processes.

Collaborate within the pod to troubleshoot client issues, ensure process improvements, and implement best practices for efficiency.

Serve as the escalation point for complex accounting questions or client concerns, providing expert guidance.

Tax Compliance & Payroll Accounting

Oversee the processing and reconciliation of payroll transactions, ensuring compliance with payroll tax regulations.

Ensure accurate sales and use tax filings with appropriate states

Assist in quarterly and annual income tax preparation, including coordinating with internal and external tax accountants

Ensure all state and federal tax liabilities are accurately recorded and paid on time.

Process Improvement & Technology Integration

Implement and oversee workflow processes for client accounting operations, ensuring efficiency and accuracy.

Utilize cloud-based accounting software (QuickBooks Online, Xero) to streamline processes and improve reporting.

Ensure accurate data migration and system integration when transitioning clients to new accounting platforms

Identify and implement automation opportunities to improve efficiencies in bookkeeping and financial reporting.

Leadership & Client Management

Act as the primary point of contact for client financial matters, ensuring exceptional client service.

Oversee financial clean-ups and data integrity reviews, ensuring accurate records for historical financials

Ensure timely completion of financial reports, reconciliations, and tax filings through coordinated teamwork within the pod.

Provide training and guidance on best practices for internal financial workflows, improving client processes.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred but not required).

5 years of experience in accounting, preferably in public accounting or outsourced client accounting services.

Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and tax compliance.

Experience leading a team or mentoring junior staff, with the ability to delegate effectively and improve processes.

Must have Quickbooks Online and Desktop experience, Quickbooks certification is a plus

Strong communication skills, ability to manage multiple clients efficiently, and a process-driven approach to workflow optimization.
