NEW AGE Laboratories is currently looking to hire a ICP Chemist/ICP Analyst to join our laboratory team here in South Haven, Michigan. The ICP Chemist will be responsible for operating and maintaining the Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) machines in the laboratory, conducting analyses on various samples, ensuring that results are accurate and meet high-quality standards, and providing support in samples preparation. The ICP Chemist will work closely with the laboratory team to ensure optimal performance of equipment, troubleshoot issues, and help improve laboratory processes for better efficiency and data quality.
Key Responsibilities:
· ICP Operation and Maintenance:
o Operate and maintain ICP-OES equipment for various tests, including elemental analysis of water, soil, plant tissue, and other agricultural and environmental samples.
o Perform/document routine maintenance and calibration of ICP instruments, including cleaning and troubleshooting equipment to ensure accurate results.
o Ensure equipment operates at peak performance and meets manufacturer specifications.
· Sample Analysis:
o Prepare samples using digestions, dilutions and standard preparations, following standardized laboratory protocols.
o Analyze and interpret data from ICP results and assist in compiling reports for clients.
o Ensure the correct preparation of sample solutions and follow appropriate samples handling protocols.
· Data Management:
o Maintain accurate records of sample preparation and analysis, including ICP results, and any issues encountered during testing.
o Review and validate results for consistency, reporting discrepancies or anomalies to the supervisor.
o Assist in writing technical reports or preparing data summaries for client deliverables.
· Quality Control:
o Perform regular checks on the ICP equipment to ensure compliance with internal quality control standards.
o Follow strict laboratory safety protocols, including the safe handling of chemicals, reagents, and waste.
o Contribute to laboratory efforts in maintaining ISO, GLP, or other relevant certifications.
· Collaboration and Support:
o Collaborate with other lab staff to ensure timely completion of sample analyses.
o Provide technical expertise and training to junior lab staff on ICP procedures and maintenance.
o Support R&D efforts in improving analytical techniques or laboratory processes.
· Reporting and Documentation:
o Document equipment malfunctions, repairs, and maintenance activities.
o Maintain an organized log of all tests, calibration activities, and quality control checks.
o Assist in developing/updating standard operating procedures (SOPSs) for ICP analysis and ensuring adherence to laboratory standards.
Qualifications:
· Education:
o Associate’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field.
o Certification on training in ICP spectroscopy or laboratory analysis is a plus.
· Experience:
o 2 years of experience in operating and maintaining ICP equipment in a laboratory environment (preferred).
o Experience with ICP-OES (Optical Emission Spectroscopy) or ICP-MS (Mass Spectrometry) is highly desirable.
o Familiarity with laboratory safety procedures and quality control protocols.
· Skills:
o Strong knowledge of ICP analysis, sample preparation, and analytical techniques.
o Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in performing complex analyses.
o Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot equipment issues.
o Proficient in using laboratory data management systems, MS Excel, or other data analysis software.
o Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
o Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
o Strong organizational skills

Physical Requirements:
· Ability to stand for long periods and work with laboratory equipment.
· Comfortable working with chemicals and reagents in a laboratory setting.
· Lift over 25lbs.
