Overview
We are seeking a skilled CNC Machine Operator to join our dynamic manufacturing team on 3rd shift (midnight to 9:00 A.M.). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in operating CNC machinery and a keen eye for detail. A CNC Machine Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining CNC machinery to produce precision parts according to specifications. This role requires attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to producing high-quality work. This role is crucial in ensuring that our products meet the highest quality standards and are produced efficiently. The CNC Machinist will work with various materials, including plastics, and will be responsible for interpreting blueprints and specifications to create precision components.
Duties
- Operate CNC machines such as lathes and mills.
- Correctly and accurately place material blanks and parts in machine using vices and fixtures as required.
- Monitor machine operations to ensure parts are produced within tolerances and quality standards.
- Use basic measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, and other similar equipment.
- Read and understand prints to determine required measurements, tolerances, finishes, etc.
- Document production activities, including machine settings, tool changes, and quality inspection results.
- Properly perform a standard part comparison to verify that parts produced meet customer specifications.
- Correctly and accurately deburr or otherwise finish parts.
- Chase threads as required.
- Operate basic shop equipment related to CNC Production including but not limited to drill press, red wheel, and grinder.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on CNC machines, including lubrication, cleaning, testing and adjusting coolant levels, and other basic machine maintenance as directed by supervisor or foreman.
- Clean and maintain personal workspace as well as machine, cell and shop area as directed by supervisor or foreman.
- Know and comply with all required safety practices for the operation of shop equipment.
- Participate in a continuous job training program.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience
- Proven experience as a CNC Machinist or similar role in a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with Haas controls is preferred.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Basic mathematical ability.
- Ability to visualize drawings in three-dimensions by mentally rotating two-dimensional images to imagine depth, perspective, and special relationships and perceive the object’s shape and form in a realistic manner.
- Ability to learn how to read and comprehend drawings, specifications, plans.
- Ability to measure and prepare materials for the machining process.
- Ability to use measurement tools like tape measures, micrometer, gage pins, calipers, etc.
- Ability to use basic hand and shop tools and equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Good work habits, pride in workmanship, and a positive attitude with a willingness to learn.
Physical Requirements:
- Standing and Walking: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, often throughout the duration of a shift, to perform various tasks on the manufacturing floor.
- Lifting and Carrying: Capability to lift and carry objects of varying weights, ranging from lightweight components to heavier machinery parts (up to 50 pounds), following proper lifting techniques to prevent injuries.
- Bending and Stooping: Flexibility to bend, stoop, and reach low or overhead to access equipment, materials, or workpieces, ensuring thoroughness in manufacturing processes.
- Manual Dexterity: Proficiency in using hands, fingers, and arms to manipulate tools, operate machinery, assemble components, and perform intricate tasks with precision and accuracy.
- Repetitive Motions: Ability to perform repetitive motions such as grasping, gripping, twisting, and turning while handling materials or operating machinery, maintaining consistency and quality in production processes.
- Fine Motor Skills: Precision in performing delicate tasks requiring fine motor skills, such as assembling small components, operating controls, and inspecting intricate parts for defects.
- Visual Acuity: Sharp vision, including close-up, distance, color, and peripheral vision, to inspect parts for quality, read prints and instructions, and operate machinery safely.
- Hearing: Adequate hearing ability to detect sounds and signals from machinery, equipment, and coworkers, ensuring awareness of surroundings and maintaining safety in the manufacturing environment.
- Stamina and Endurance: Physical stamina and endurance to sustain energy levels and focus throughout a shift in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, often involving repetitive tasks and multitasking.
- Agility and Coordination: Agility and coordination to move swiftly and safely around the manufacturing floor, maneuvering through crowded areas, and operating machinery with precision and control.
- Adaptability to Environment: Ability to adapt to varying environmental conditions, including temperature fluctuations, noise levels, and exposure to dust, chemicals, or other manufacturing hazards, while adhering to safety protocols and regulations.
- Ability to Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Willingness and capability to wear and properly use personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, gloves, earplugs, and dust masks to mitigate potential workplace hazards and ensure personal safety.
