Job Description
TITLE: Teacher, Instructional Coach ELA/Literacy - 2 positions
CLASSIFICATION: Certified Position
REPORTS TO: Director of Secondary Curriculum & Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Schools
LOCATIONS: Middle Schools - Specific To Be Determined
SUMMARY: The Literacy Coach plays a critical role in enhancing the quality of literacy instruction across the district by partnering with educators to improve student outcomes in reading, writing, and language skills. The role of the literacy coach is to build teacher capacity and their understanding of literacy instructional practices as related Indiana Academic Standards and Data Driven Instruction. The coach will provide targeted professional development, collaborate with teachers to implement best practices, and work with school leaders to drive district-wide math initiatives. All instructional coaches work collaboratively with students, teachers, paraprofessionals, and administration to ensure student success and create an environment of support, reflection, and improvement. They are responsible for ensuring high-quality literacy instruction in classrooms through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching and providing feedback to teachers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience teaching literacy, with a record of successfully impacting student achievement.
- Experience working with diverse learners and a strong understanding of differentiated instruction to meet the needs of students at varying literacy levels.
- Deep knowledge of the Science of Reading and literacy instruction strategies, including reading comprehension, phonics, fluency, vocabulary development, and writing.
- Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, including the ability to create and nurture a professional learning community of adult learners.
- Proven ability in using student-level data to guide instructional decisions.
- Experience with a range of literacy assessment tools, including formative and summative assessments.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills, including giving and receiving constructive feedback.

- Demonstrated expertise in oral and written communication.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the implementation of literacy intervention programs for students in need of additional support
- Administer reading assessments to determine areas of needed support
- Provide support and training for Dyslexia/Multisensory lessons
- Strengthen Professional Learning Community: train, support, and facilitate the PLC process
- Provide ongoing support and coaching to teachers in the areas of reading and writing instruction. Offer guidance on effective teaching strategies and techniques tailored to literacy development.
- Support the instructional development of all teachers in understanding the NAFCS English Language Arts Curriculum, varied assessments, and data analysis.
- Analyze all assessment data (ILEARN, Checkpoints, Benchmarks, Lexile Levels)
- Model/observe lessons in classrooms on a daily basis
- Provide direct coaching and support to middle school teachers in the implementation of evidence-based literacy strategies across all content areas.
- Foster a positive, supportive, and collaborative learning environment for both staff and students.
- Provide technical support to collaborative teams within buildings.
- Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to enhance literacy instruction and planning, including new resources.
- Support teachers and administrators in using data to improve instruction on all levels.
- Assist teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students.
- Informally observe (non-evaluative) lessons and provide feedback for a teacher’s professional growth and students’ success.
- Develop staff members’ knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of professional development targeted topics and designs.
- Develop coaching plans for teachers to ensure student improvement.
- Motivate adult learners to improve professional practice.
- Submit a weekly coaching log and any pertinent data requests/coaching documentation.
- Attend/Facilitate fall, spring, and/or summer training sessions.
- Assist teachers in understanding NAFCS mission and core values.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by their Administrator and/or other designee.
SUPERVISION: This is NOT a supervisory position and DOES NOT include evaluation of colleagues.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.
