TITLE: Administrative Intern, Preschool Special Education Programs
CLASSIFICATION: Certified
REPORTS TO: Associate Director for School Psychologists & Student Support Services and Assistant to the
Superintendent for Special Education & Student Support Services.
LOCATION: District Position - S. Ellen Jones Elementary (office location)
Pay & Benefits: This position is paid in accordance with the CBA for Teachers starting at level O (15) and eligible for the same benefits as Teachers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Candidates must hold a valid Building Level Administrator License or persons currently working toward an administrative license to be completed by 2026;
- have a minimum of 3 years successful teaching experience as a special education teacher at the elementary level;
- have demonstrated superior ability to work with peers, supervisory staff, parents, and students;
- projects a positive image to staff and the public;
- have demonstrated leadership qualities.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position supervises the certified and classified staff working with our Pre-K special education students.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitate Child Find and identification for students transitioning from First Steps and those turning 3 years old, parental requests and other community preschool referrals.
- Identify program needs and provide services to special education students ages 3-5
- Ensure the implementation and responsibilities outlined in Indiana Article 7.
- Oversee the academic program development of students in Preschool special education programs.
- Assist in disciplinary and crisis situations with special education students as they occur, including student consultations. This includes appropriate documentation and communication procedures.
- Represent the school at case conferences, including coordinating conferences with the special education office and telephoning parent/guardian to be present, informing the necessary teachers, etc.
- Coordinate the scheduling of special education students and assist in developing teacher schedules.
- Maintain and secure appropriate special education records, including a copy of the permanent record, evaluation reports, appropriate discipline records, medication needs, release forms, etc.
- Coordinate appropriate procedures and steps with central office staff regarding the testing and placement of students in the special education program. Ensure that evaluations are current with regard to the state requirements. Ensure placement meets IEP requirements.
- Be a liaison between All Schools in the district and all appropriate agencies as well as community support groups and businesses that deal with student concerns. Work collaboratively with transportation, parents and school teams to provide placement and services determined through the case conference.
- Serve on Head Start board
- Participate in First Step community meetings
- Facilitate training/collaboration for special education staff at the building level
- Ensure legal compliance is met for all IEP’s/meetings/paperwork at the building level.
- Additional duties as requested by the administrative staff.
- Coordinate with NAFCS PK staff to screen development prior to and following enrollment.
- Data manager for ISPROUT
- Supervise and evaluate special education preschool staff, including special education teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and support personnel.
- Provide ongoing coaching, professional development, and resources to staff working with preschool children with disabilities.
- Facilitate the transition of students to appropriate kindergarten programming
- Assist with budgeting, resource allocation, and staffing for preschool special education services.
- Analyze program data and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
Stay current on laws, policies, trends, and best practices related to early childhood special education..
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
