POSITION FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR 2025-2026
TITLE: Associate Director, Special Education & Student Support Services
CLASSIFICATION: Certified Administration Position
STATUS: Exempt (Salaried)/260 Days
SALARY: $110,000 to $115,000 (based on education and experience)
LOCATION: Educational Service Center (ESC)
REPORTS TO: Assistant to the Superintendent for Student Support Services
Interviews to be held: March 11, 2025
Anticipated Start Date: July 1, 2025
SUMMARY: To assist the leadership and support in the administration of the mission, vision and beliefs of the special education programs that support the fundamental objectives of educating children with disabilities and establishes innovative best practice models to accomplish those objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Have a minimum of five (5) years as a special education teacher and a minimum of three (3) years in a special education leadership role,
- Hold or be eligible for an Indiana Director of Special Education Certification or a building administrator license.
- Possess knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations governing the provision of special education.
- Have experience in conducting case conference committee meetings and developing individualized education programs.
- Have demonstrated superior ability in working with peers, superiors, parents, students and special education advocate representatives in accomplishing cooperatively developed education goals.
- Have demonstrated experience in planning, developing and conducting professional development activities.
- Knowledge of curriculum and instructional strategies to work collaboratively with the Curriculum department.
- Knowledge of the non-public and parochial school administration representatives.
- Possess the highest personal standards, good morals, ethics, honesty, commitment and integrity, as well as, effective skills in secondary curriculum, student discipline, communication, multitasking, and collaboration.
- Be an approachable leader with demonstrated ability to motivate all members of faculty and staff and embrace a culture of excellence and continued improvement.
SUPERVISES: Assists the Assistant to the Superintendent for Student Support Services with the supervision of office staff and related special education services staff and other non-building based special education staff.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist school certified staff in the development of appropriate school programs for children with disabilities.
- Assist school certified staff with the day-to-day processes associated with the provision of special education.
- Consult with school staff and parents concerning the educational needs of individual students and, as appropriate, chair case conference committee meetings and problem-solve with parents and teachers on issues about their student’s educational program.
- Assist in writing of the grant and supervision of the Corporation’s special education comprehensive system of personnel development (CSPD).
- Monitor the implementation of current state and federal laws, rules and regulations.
- When appropriate, serve as liaison with community agencies to assist in providing comprehensive programming for students.
- Assist and/or plan workshops and other in-service programs to maximize professional development opportunities of the certified and support staff.
- Ongoing training and communication with facilitators.
- Coordinate and supervise special education Extended School Year (ESY).
- Coordinate and supervise the augmentative assistive communication and technology team and staff development and coordinate with the state team.
- Administrator/Chair case conference committee for preschool team placements.
- Assist in the manifestation and/or case conferences based on the situation and needs of the students, parents and district.
- Work with School Psychologist, Facilitators, Building Administration on pre-referral/eligibility determinations, MTTS, behavior interventions/systems/discipline decisions, program placement decisions.
- Know the new IIEP system and how it LINKS information to/from PowerSchool.
- Work with Sped Data Associate and Psych Secretary (office staff positions) on technical and compliance issues between systems: IIEP, CLSI, & PowerSchool
- Enter new Teachers/Staff into the LINK/IIEP system correctly.
- Troubleshoot all error within the IIEP system (dates, funding code errors, special education compliance/quality).
- Work with SIS staff and buildings on ILEARN and graduation qualifying exams on accommodations through IIEP/504s to PowerSchool.
- Maintain NAFCS Special Education Handbook and provide required trainings to each building on topics such as: 504s, FBA/BIP, Goal Writing, IIEP overview, Transition Planning and Autism.
- Complete alternative services agreements for S-5 students.
- Works with the transportation center to problem solve issues of transportation for special needs students.
- Meet with representatives of nonpublic schools to coordinate services for students in their buildings and to provide staff development for their staff.
- Attend workshops, conferences and training sessions, read current literature and current research to stay abreast of current trends in the education of students with disabilities and of the inclusion of those students into regular education.
- Serve on state committees (alternate assessment) to represent the Corporation and to bring information back to the Corporation on various topics that influence education of students with disabilities.
- Performs such other reasonable duties as assigned by the Assistant to the Superintendent for Student Support Services or his/her designee.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.
