TITLE:                                Custodial Supervisor

CLASSIFICATION:             Hourly (Non-exempt)

PAY RANGE 19:                 $21.82 to $22.92 (based on experience and education)  

SHIFT:                               Split 1st & 2nd Shift hours (hours may vary by building)

LENGTH:                            8 Hours daily/260 days yearly

REPORTS TO:                    Manager of Facilities Operations

SUMMARY:   Provides custodial support, ensures that best custodial practices are followed, evaluates custodial service performance, and prepares reports. Ensures compliance with local, state and federal safety and environmental regulations; works with building administrators, custodians and the Manager of Facilities Operations.

  • Education and/or Experience:   Associates degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Language Skills:   Ability to read, write, and interpret documents such as safety rules, blueprints, operating and maintenance instructions, directions for use, schematic drawings, procedure manuals, and schedules. Ability to understand and generate written explanations, work orders, check lists, and employee evaluation instruments. Ability to speak effectively before groups of individuals or employees of the organization.
  • Wireless Communication Device:   Employees are required to have a Wireless communication device (WCD) to facilitate communication during and after working hours.
  • Mathematical Skills:   Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute square and cubic measurements. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability:   Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to apply common sense understandings to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to establish priority ordering of tasks necessary to complete an assignment and convey these understandings and priorities to others. Ability to apply estimation skills. 
  • Computer Skills:  General knowledge of computers including, but not limited to email, word processing, spreadsheets, work order software and HVAC data software.

  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  Valid Driver's License required - this positions requires the use of district vehicles and candidates must meet the requirements to drive those vehicles (21 years old and a good driving record).
  • Other Skills and Abilities:  Ability to use and instruct others in the use of machines, tools, equipment, and work aids (including computers and calculators) which may be representative, but not all inclusive, of those commonly associated with custodial work

RESPONSIBILITIES:   

  • Assign work and job responsibilities for all custodial personnel to include specific duties for each.
  • Instruct employees in the proper and safe use and care of equipment and supplies.  Prepare and instruct standard procedures of custodial tasks to staff. Develop and implement a training program for all new custodial employees. Administer training programs to custodial staff.
  • Evaluates custodians with building principals/administrators.and Approve building requests for custodial supplies and make recommendations for purchase of supplies.
  • Ensure compliance with local, State and Federal regulations such as OSHA, Asbestos, A.D.A., IDEM, etc.
  • Evaluate the cleanliness of all buildings  through regular inspections.  Share inspection results with building administrators to assist in the evaluation process.
  • Keep current on methods and procedures concerning  custodial  cleaning.Provide quality assurance for first and second shift custodians.
  • Assist with coordination of daily activities of scheduled project work.  
  • Ensure proper A. D. A. signage and purchase building signs.
  • Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets in accordance with 081-IA requirements.
  • Monitor and approve use of custodial overtime. Perform specific HR functions relating to custodial personnel. Represent the Facilities Department at custodial interviews.
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:  Directs and assigns work to custodial personnel in conjunction with Building Administrator and/or Manager of Facilities operations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands, talk and hear.  The employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
