 Overview:
The Director of Technology is responsible for leading, planning, implementing, and managing the district's technology initiatives and systems. This position ensures that the district’s technological resources support student learning, teacher effectiveness, and administrative efficiency. The Director of Technology will collaborate with district and school leadership, staff, students, and external partners to foster innovation, improve the educational experience, and ensure the security, reliability, and accessibility of all technology systems across the district.
 
Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Planning & Leadership:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive district technology plan aligned with district goals and educational objectives.  Proactively collaborate with school leadership and departments to assess technology needs and provide guidance on effective use of technology in classrooms, operations and administration.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend best practices for integrating innovative solutions into the district’s operations and instructional practices.
  • Lead and support technology committees, providing professional development opportunities for staff and ongoing training on new tools.
  • Oversee and direct assigned personnel to support the integration of technology and related systems into the school environment.
  • Keep current with trends and bring innovative ideas forward.
2. Technology Infrastructure Management: 
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of the district’s network infrastructure, including hardware, software, and connectivity services.
  • Ensure the district’s IT infrastructure is secure, reliable, and scalable to meet the needs of a growing and diverse student population.
  • Manage procurement and lifecycle management of technology hardware, software, and cloud services.
  • Ensure proper integration of educational technologies, including the student information system (SIS), learning management systems (LMS), digital classrooms, and other teaching tools.
  • Create annual work plans including ongoing maintenance cycles, replacement schedules and updates in consideration with the academic calendar.
3. Data & Security Management:
  • Enforce policies regarding the security, confidentiality, and integrity of student and staff data.
  • Monitor and manage cybersecurity protocols to protect district data and networks.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to data privacy and security (e.g., FERPA, CIPA).  Coordinate district-wide disaster recovery and business continuity plans for technology infrastructure.
4. Budget & Resource Management:
  • Manage the technology department’s budget, including hardware, software, and personnel resources.
  • Identify cost-effective solutions and potential funding opportunities (grants, partnerships, etc.) to support technology initiatives.
  • Oversee the purchase, installation, and maintenance, and distribution of all technology equipment, software, and services.
  • Provide business case justifications and business analytics to support purchase decisions.
  • Communicate and provide information to stakeholders and staff to understand and implement business solutions.
5. Professional Development & Support:
  • Provide ongoing training and professional development opportunities for teachers, administrators, and support staff in the use of educational technology.
  • Supervise and refine as necessary a district-wide technology customer service-oriented support strategy, including helpdesk services and troubleshooting.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all technology-related issues within the district, offering technical guidance and solutions.
  • Provide clear expectations and performance accountabilities to ensure assigned staff are productive contributors in their roles.
  • Provide training and development opportunities for technology department staff.
  • Use change management and performance management techniques as required to lead staff through future changes and growth to meet district needs.
6. Communication & Collaboration:
  • Build relationships with stakeholders and users in the District to support the business technology needs.
  • Act as a liaison between the district and external technology vendors and partners.
  • Ensure open communication channels between district leadership and school staff regarding technology updates, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Engage with the community to promote digital literacy, share resources, and build understanding of the district's technology goals.
7. Performs other duties as assigned by Superintendent or her/his designee.
 

Key Qualifications:
  1. Master’s degree or higher.
  2. Five or more years of successful experience directing, coordinating, integrating and implementing technological systems and strategies.
  3. Experience with business analytics and solutions orientation.
  4. Ability to balance strategy and tactics.
  5. Demonstrated performance management practices, conflict resolution techniques and relationship-building acumen.
  6. Change management experience.
  7. Demonstrated technical competencies, certifications/licenses or areas of expertise.
  8. Demonstrated ability to collaborate.
  9. Such alternatives to the above as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA):
  1. Strong understanding of K-12 educational technology trends, digital learning tools, and best practices and the ability to implement, preferred.
  2. Excellent knowledge of network systems, cloud services, hardware, software, cybersecurity, and data management. Proficient in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues efficiently.
  3. Proven experience in technology project management, including planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  4. Ability to think strategically and innovate while balancing operational and resource constraints.
  5. Exceptional leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
  6. Strong problem-solving abilities and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  7. Familiarity with relevant laws and regulations regarding student privacy, including FERPA and COPPA.
  8. Proven ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a team of IT professionals. Experience in fostering a collaborative, solution-oriented culture within a technology department.
  9. Possess effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interface diplomatically with teachers, administrators, parents, students, support staff, co-workers and outside professional contacts.

  • The employee must also have the ability to work in an office environment and operate varied technologies.
  • The specific vision requirements of the job include good depth perception and occasionally being able to see objects/persons at a distance.
  • While performing the duties of the job the employee frequently is required to hear conversation in quiet, as well as a noisy environment and be able to tell where a sound is coming from.
  • The employee must be able to communicate in order to give directions.

TERMS, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The successful candidate will be offered a two-year two-hundred sixty-day administrative contract excluding annual vacation and personal leave.  Salary placement commensurate with proven experience and skills based upon job qualifications and performance responsibilities outlined herein (range $125,000 - $140,000).  Eligible for annual performance incentive as additional compensation for achievement of measurable outcomes.  Comprehensive benefits.
