We are looking for a Temporary Music Therapist for our Summer Camp program.
Position Overview
The primary function of the Music Therapist is to provide campers with interventions and experiences that will build their independence, reinforce their IEP goals whenever possible, support each child’s priority needs, improve or maintain their individual skill levels. In addition, the goal is to provide them with structure and routine during the summer. This position requires organizational effectiveness, open communication with staff, supervisors, and families, and the ability to create a safe, positive environment for children during music therapy. The music therapist will create activities that are motivating and developmentally appropriate for participating students.
The music therapist is responsible for promptly reporting to his or her supervisor any circumstances that negatively affect the health, safety, or well-being of campers, staff, the agency, or its equipment.

Responsibilities
- Exhibit positive, respectful, and professional behavior toward children served, their families, Summer Camp personnel and New Avenues personnel.
- Create lesson plans using music therapy techniques as well as nationally recognized standards.
- Use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of campers.
- Keep track of supplies and coordinate for ordering of music related items.
- Measure and report on student progress during camp.
- Ability to assess campers and differentiate instruction to meet all camper abilities.
- Follow New Avenues policies and procedures as well as regulatory standards.
- Create music activities for each class period that are motivating and developmentally appropriate for the students participating.
- Manage interns in their inventions and sign off on their reports.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from a program accredited by the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA).
- Licensed Professional Music Therapist(LPMT) through the Counselor, Social Work, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board .
- Two years’ experience working with multiple disabilities, including autism spectrum, ADD and ADHD, learning disabilities, and developmental delays.
- CPR/First aid certification or ability to obtain the certification.
- Valid Ohio Driver’s license.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
- Must have reliable transportation.
