Job Description: This position is responsible for ensuring safety and protecting lives by preventing and responding to emergencies.
Performance Responsibilities:
•Maintain the safety of the patrons in and around the pool
•Communicate and enforce all pool rules in a personable and professional manner
•Communicate any potentially dangerous elements of the facility to the Pool Director
•Perform patron surveillance with a rescue tube from the guard stand
•Remain alert and use all senses while guarding
•Work as a team with other lifeguards
•Handle all incidents in a manner appropriate to your training
•Make sure all emergency equipment is on the pool deck before classes start (backboard, first aid bag, rings, poles etc.) Return to the office at the end of the day.
•Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Abilities:
•Minimum age is 16 years old.
•Active Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid certificate required, American Red Cross preferred
•Working knowledge of equipment, facilities, operations, and techniques used in lifeguarding.
•Ability to manage crowds, swimmers, and water activities and enforce rules and regulations.
•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, patrons, and public.
•Ability to communicate effectively orally, ability to give and understand oral instructions.
Tools and Equipment Used
Various hand tools used in the maintenance of a pool, water safety equipment, phones, and radios.

Work Hours
This is a variable time non-exempt position with varied schedule with required availability for after normal hours of operation during emergencies and other departmental critical needs.
