Position: Advisor - Garden Club (2)Objective Students will have the opportunity for hands-on learning, inquiry, and observation by planting seeds,propagating plants, harvesting, and consuming fruits and vegetables while appreciating the awareness ofour environment.Responsibilities: Garden Club will be held one afternoon/week for 1-1/2 hours (2:30-4:00) on Tuesday after school Introduce the importance and use of the greenhouse vs. outside gardening Lessons/discussions on plant care and why they are essential to the environment Introduce students to plant life, identify parts of a plant, how to propagate plants, the importance of good soil,sunlight, fertilization Students will work collaboratively in teams to plant and care for outside garden beds in the school yard to benefitschool-wide/community families Understand the benefits of physical activity with social interactions and exposure to nature and sunlight and howfruit and vegetables have a positive impact on everyones diet Gardening will positively impact students' achievement, gain social skills, and improve behaviors and attitudestoward nature. Students may learn to use the vegetables that are grown in the gardens to make a healthy dish Students may learn to bake using a recipe, ingredients, and time needed to cook.Qualifications: A current employee of New Bedford Public Schools (Unit A) is preferred. Knowledge of DeValles Elementary.
