Safety and Security Officer
New Beginnings is actively seeking a Safety and Security Officer (SSO) to be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure therapeutic environment within the adolescent mental health treatment facility. The SSO will actively monitor patient behavior, respond to potential crisis situations, enforce security protocols, and de-escalate aggressive or disruptive behavior, while prioritizing patient well-being and confidentiality. The SSO will require specialized training in crisis intervention and mental health awareness. The SSO will also partner with New Beginnings therapeutic and program staff to engage with adolescent clients and to aid and promote a safe, therapeutic environment across a facility programs.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Monitoring:
Regularly patrol patient areas, observing behavior and identifying potential safety concerns, including self-harm or aggression towards others.
Crisis Intervention:
Respond promptly to crisis situations, utilizing de-escalation techniques to calm agitated patients and prevent violence or self-harm.
Security Enforcement:
Enforce access control procedures, monitor visitor logs, and conduct security checks on individuals entering the facility.
Incident Reporting:
Document all security and safety incidents, including patient behavior, staff interactions, and any interventions taken, adhering to New Beginnings, DHS, CPS, and HIPAA guidelines.
Search Procedures:
Conduct safety searches of patient and visitor belongings as needed, following established protocols.
Staff Support:
Assist clinical staff in managing challenging patient behaviors and provide support during restraint procedures when necessary.
Training and Certification:
Maintain current certifications in Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), CPR, and other relevant safety training programs.
Communication:
Collaborate with program staff, therapeutic teams, and other security personnel to ensure coordinated patient care and safety.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong Crisis Intervention Skills: Proven ability to de-escalate volatile situations and manage aggressive behavior.
- Mental Health Awareness: Understanding of mental health disorders and the potential behaviors associated with psychiatric patients.
- Physical Fitness: Ability immediately identify and physically intervene in crisis situations when necessary.
- Observation Skills: Keen attention to detail and ability to identify potential safety risks
- Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication to clearly report incidents and interact with patients, staff, and visitors
- Security Training: Prior or law enforcement preferred, with a focus on healthcare settings
- Compliance with Regulations: Adherence to HIPAA guidelines and all applicable laws regarding patient confidentiality
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Knowledge of public safety and basic security protocols.
- Integrity and professionalism.
Skills:
- Surveillance skills and detail orientation.
- Strong verbal communication.
- 2 years of experience as safety officer, school resources officer, security guard, or equivalent position preferred.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $17.00 - $17.50 per hour
Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
