Description & Responsibility
Teaching Artists’ responsibilities to students:
- Delivering the best possible age-appropriate skills, content, and materials, including movement, terminology, music, choreography, technique, and historical influences;
- Acting as a mentor or role model;
- Providing a safe environment—physical, emotional, and psychological
- Showing respect for all students through
- a fair and equitable distribution of time
- the use of encouraging language in offering positive reinforcement, constructive criticism, and acknowledgment of achievements;
- Adapting teaching methods to meet students needs;
- Offering challenges or opportunities that will encourage advancement to the next level;
- Building inclusive environment regardless of ability level;
- Establishing clear expectations for behavior and attire; and providing appropriate discipline.
- Infractions dealing with physical violence or threats will be referred immediately to the ED, and the student must be removed from class, returning only after parent contact by ED or AD and approval from ED. For other infractions, the teaching artist is expected to :
- Gently speak to the student, so they are reminded and to rectify the specific infraction;
- Advise the student one-on-one before or after class and notify the AD;
- Ask a student to sit outside the classroom (be sure you can see them at all times as no student may travel between offices or classrooms unaccompanied) or with another staff member and notify the AD.
- Speak with AD before speaking with a parent in regards to an issue.

Teaching Artists’ responsibilities to colleagues:
- Offering mutual respect;
- Giving support;
- Engaging in open communication;
- Interacting in a non-threatening, collegial, and professional manner;
Teaching Artists’ responsibilities to parents:
- Communicating clearly and concisely about expectations regarding
- the general outline of class content, structure, milestones, and progress
- appropriate and respectful attire
- compliance with school policies;
- Using multiple modalities for communication
- Creating a safe environment for the students; and
- Providing opportunities to view classroom instruction.
Teaching Artists’ responsibilities to studio/classroom:
- Educating the community through performances at public events, arts festivals, etc., and
- Demonstrating professional conduct as a positive reflection on the studio.
Teaching Artists’ responsibilities to themselves:
- Engaging in continuing education and professional development activities
- Maintaining personal health (proper rest, nutrition, stress management) Use position as teacher and educator to influence positive decisions, responsible action, and desirable outcomes.
- Setting time aside to self-reflect on their commitment to themselves and the studio and analyze the strengths and weaknesses needed to improve themselves as individuals and as educators.

Expectations
Teaching Artists are expected to:
- Clean space after the conclusion of class so that it is ready and available for their colleagues;
- Ensure facilities i.e., music, lights, other tools are in working order and inform AD if not;
- Respect the space and individuals by not eating offensive foods, drinks, etc.;
- Arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of their class;
- Give ample notice when running late or absent. (3 latenesses will be counted as an absence. Three (3) or more absences per semester will call for dismissal);
- Have an understanding of health and safety protocol;
- Monitor student performance and submit progress reports for evaluation;
- Plan activities and participate when able;
- Complete accident/injury reports in case of an accident in class, and notify parent/guardian;
- Cell phones are not permitted during class sessions or meetings and must be used in teacher lounge areas.
- Attend mandatory meetings and training programs/events/activities;
- Be students (Never Stop Training and Learning!)
