JOB POSTING: NEW BERN CIVIC THEATRE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
New Bern Civic Theatre (NBCT) is in an exciting period of growth, expanding its impact
as a premier arts organization in our region. With a full mainstage season of eight
productions, alongside our dynamic Encore Series showcasing stand-alone
performances, we are enriching the community while providing a platform for regional
artists and musicians. Ticket sales have drastically exceeded projections for two
consecutive years, a testament to our growing audience and commitment to excellence.
Our facilities have also seen remarkable upgrades, including new floors in our rehearsal
space, state-of-the-art sound equipment, and brand-new theatre seating within the last
five years. As we continue to elevate the standard for community theatre, we are further
investing in the future with plans for a new office and additional classroom and
rehearsal space.
We seek a visionary Executive Director (ED) to lead us into this next chapter,
continuing our trajectory of artistic innovation, financial growth, and deep
community engagement.
The ED supervises a staff that includes a Theatre Management Coordinator and an
Operations and Office Assistant. This team combines with volunteers and the Board of
Directors to help the ED in efforts of fundraising, management, financial planning, and
artistic endeavors.
Desired Experience and Education:
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience with a nonprofit organization or equivalent and transferrable skills
Fundraising skills
Experience with grant writing and reporting
Experience with facilities management or equivalent and transferable skills
Theatre experience or equivalent and transferrable skills
Experience negotiating and writing contracts with talent agencies or equivalent
and transferrable skills
A 4-year degree, and academic or other background in theatre is preferred
Duties of Position:
Managing the organization in a fiscally responsible manner, within the annual
budget as approved by the Board of Directors, and with the assistance of the
Board Treasurer and NBCT's bookkeeper and outside accountant
Research, recommend, collate show titles with Season Selection Committee to
present for Board approval as upcoming season
Serve as the Talent Scout/Coordinator for Encore Series bookings (stand-alone
amateur or professional acts) that require contract negotiation or preparation
Hiring and supervising staff for positions approved by the Board
Coordinating volunteers
Managing facilities
Overseeing volunteer productions
Marketing NBCT productions and season ticket sales, with the assistance of the
Marketing Committee
Representing NBCT with its stakeholders and in the community
Assisting the Board with major fundraising efforts and coordinating minor ones
Attending monthly Board and committee meetings
Employment Terms:
Must agree to follow NBCT policies and procedures
Must be able to successfully pass a background check
Will be required to work flexible hours
Must live within a 30-minute drive of New Bern Civic Theatre
"At will” position
Reports to the Board of Directors
Salary Range: $45,000-$65,000 (commensurate with experience)
