GENERAL PURPOSE: The City of New Braunfels Communications Intern will assist the Communications team with administrative support, day-to-day functions and various assigned projects. This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Assist in event planning, coordination, and implementation for City events including Spooktacular, the Veteran’s Day Parade, the Downtown Lighting, Wassailfest, Saengerfest, Coffee with a Cop, ribbon cuttings, groundbreakings, and other City hosted or sponsored events.
- Help with administrative support for receiving, tracking, and responding to communications request.
- Assist with the creation and implementation of social media communications.
- Assist with website administration and management.
- Complete additional tasks pertaining to the day-to-day operation of the Communications and Community Engagement Department.
- Perform other duties/projects as assigned or required.
Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field degree plan or a recent graduate of listed degree plan.
- Effective use of social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram.
- Excellent computer skills, including Outlook, Word and Excel in a Microsoft Windows environment.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
- Motivation and strong desire to take on new challenges and learn as much as possible.
- Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
- Work is generally performed in a standard office environment with event implementation taking place in a variety of environments including outdoors.
- May be required to work immediately before, during or immediately after an emergency or disaster.
