Title: Library Associate, Children's
Full-time, 37.5 hour per week position, requiring alternating Fridays and Saturdays and one evening per week.
Position Summary:
Responsible for in-library and outreach programs and providing reference and reader's advisory services. Participates in library materials selection and collection maintenance.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plans and implements programs and class/group visits as assigned for children ages preschool through 5th grade, and for adults who work with children
- Provides reference and reader's advisory services as scheduled
- Participates in library materials selection and collection maintenance. Recommends and orders materials assigned by department manager
- Researches and compiles annotated booklists or other devices for encouraging reading and the dissemination of information, including the library's website
- Participates in departmental, institutional, and regional meetings as assigned
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- A minimum of two years' experience in a public library (Children's Services preferred) or two or more years of experience working directly with children and families
- Proficiency in Spanish required
Knowledge, Skill & Ability
- Demonstrated ability to work with children
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to interact with a wide variety of people
- Considerable knowledge of children's literature and child development
- Computer literacy
Physical Requirements
Requires valid CT driver's license and ability to conduct community outreach programs.
