About the Alternatives to Incarceration and Policing (A2IP) Initiative
Alternatives to Incarceration and Policing (A2IP) is a program of the New Britain Racial Justice Coalition (NBRJC) designed to empower individuals directly impacted by the carceral system and harmful policing practices. A2IP brings together currently and formerly incarcerated individuals to advocate for evidence-based, non-carceral solutions to harm and alternatives to traditional policing models.
The program prioritizes closing prisons, establishing rehabilitation centers, addressing systemic inequities that perpetuate mass incarceration, and advocating for community-based public safety solutions. Additionally, A2IP works to track police misconduct, promote police accountability, and develop non-policing responses to harm. Through projects like the Voices from the Inside blog, A2IP amplifies the voices of incarcerated individuals, envisioning a safer and more just future rooted in equity and accountability.
