The Church. Chinese Evangel Mission Church of New Jersey (CEMCNJ) is a nondenominational church with facilities at 11 Lexington Avenue in East Brunswick, New Jersey (cemcnj.org). CEMCNJ has a Chinese-speaking congregation (CC) and an English-speaking congregation (EC) each having weekly worship services in their respective languages. Currently, most EC members are school-aged children of Chinese-speaking immigrant parents who attend CC.
The Position. Chinese Evangel Mission Church of New Jersey (CEMCNJ) seeks a full-time Youth Pastor to minister to school-aged young people (principally grades 7 through 12) and their families. The primary duties of the position are
- leading young people to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior,
- helping young people to seek and follow God’s calling,
- equipping young people to minister to a lost world while resisting its influences,
- encourage young people to serve both within the church and in the wider community,
- in cooperation with the church and its members, develop, maintain and communicate a CEMCNJ vision for youth ministry,
- stewarding the youth program budget.
The Youth Pastor will work cooperatively in the English Congregation.
Local needs. The church prays for a shepherd able to
- understand and minister to the distinct needs of young men and young women,
- encourage a welcoming environment bridging the cultural and linguistic diversity among us.
Activities. The Youth Pastor should
- participate in weekly English Sunday worship service in leadership roles such as worship leader and preacher,
- organize and regularly instruct youth Sunday School,
- oversee, organize, and lead the weekly youth fellowship meeting,
- lead weekly EC prayer meetings,
- organize and lead special youth events such as retreats and mission trips,
- communicate regularly and effectively with young people, parents, EC coworkers, the church board and the pastoral staff,
- fully participate in church events and outreaches with youth components including an annual Vacation Bible School (VBS), Harvest Festival and Easter Sunday outreach.
Pastoral duties. Collectively the members of pastoral staff have duties including those listed below. Fulfillment of these duties always requires cooperation among the members of the pastoral staff and with coworkers. The Youth Pastor should expect to contribute appropriately to the work of the pastoral staff.
- Shepherd the congregation(s).
- Participate in monthly board meetings, special board meetings, pastoral staff meetings.
- Administer the Lord’s supper.
- Baptize.
- Conduct visitation & outreach.
- Preach and oversee the pulpit schedule.
- Oversee worship services.
- Teaching, equipping and oversight of educational programs.
- Be joyful.
Qualifications. The Youth Pastor should have
- a testimony of redemption through the saving work of the Lord Jesus Christ,
- a call and commitment to shepherding—particularly young people,
- a Masters of Divinity or similar,
- willingness to minister in accord with CEMCNJ Statement of Faith,
- experience in youth ministry preferred.
