WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IN THIS ROLE
The Safety Manager will develop, implement and manage the safety program for the organization as well as provide strategic direction and leadership to the safety team and operations in an agriculture, food manufacturing and distribution environment. This position collaborates with operational leadership and contributes to effectively resolving issues that arise while executing in a fast-paced environment.
JOB DUTIES:
- Champion and promote a strong safety and compliance culture by implementing programs to ensure employee safety and organization regulatory compliance.
- Develop and execute safety strategic plan.
- Empower leadership and employees to lead safety efforts within their locations.
- Continuously improve safety performance with achieving world class results as the ultimate goal.
- Develop, update and implement programs and plans to mitigate risk.
- Perform regular analysis and audits on programs and initiatives to evaluate effectiveness and create metrics to track performance and improvements/action items on gaps identified.
- Ensure accurate and timely internal and external reporting on safety metrics and incidents to include a monthly scorecard.
- Develop, implement and lead incident response plans and train staff to execute plans.
- Investigate incidents and track metrics for all incidents that occur.
- Manage the response to all site safety inspections and inquiries from governmental agencies such as CAL-OSHA.
- Develop and deliver innovative and meaningful safety training programs with documentation of all trainings.
- Continuous audits/walks of facilities to identify any callouts or gaps.
- Work with operations when new equipment is being implemented for appropriate guarding, and appropriate training for employees.
- Prepare and conduct jobsite orientation to all new employees and vendor contractors.
- Manage, mentor and lead safety team.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Knowledge of local, state or federal environmental, health and safety regulations including how to access and evaluate resources, i.e., regulatory agencies, consulting firms, web-based information, etc.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Strong organizational, interviewing and listening skills.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service-oriented skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5-7 years of experience in a safety role.
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, environmental safety or related field is preferred, however a combination of equivalent experience and related certifications will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate employees at all levels.
- Strong knowledge of safety best practices and state and federal laws.
- In depth knowledge of OSHA.
- Ability to work all shifts and provide ‘on-call’ coverage outside work hours and some weekends and holidays.
- Valid Driver's License with clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other relevant certifications
- Agriculture Experience
- Bi-lingual Spanish and English are preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Occasional sitting, standing, climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling and stretching, walking as job requires.
- Operate office equipment requires repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.
- Exposure to extreme heat and cold storage environment.
- Environmental exposure –cold/wet conditions (40 ° or below/subzero temperatures), will work in the warehouse building and, in all plants (indoor and outdoor).
- May be required to stand/walk for extended period of time during work.
- Lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight up to 50lbs.
HOURS & WORKDAYS:
1st Shift – 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; Overtime, Weekends, and Holidays may be mandatory based on business needs. Rotating workday/time off schedules may be mandatory depending on department/business needs as well.
