WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IN THIS ROLE

The Safety Specialist is responsible for assisting our Safety Department with the continuous improvement, development, and management of Bolthouse Fresh Food’s safety programs.  This position will partner with all Department Leaders and Safety Manager to assist them with injury reductions by improving site specific safety programs, conducting training, implementation of safety policies and procedures, conducting safety assessments, investigating incidents, and facilitating regulatory inspections.  This position will leverage their experience to assist our Leadership Team with the management of our Injury and Illness Prevention Program to ensure Cal/OSHA compliance while building a proactive safety focused culture to ensure safe, healthy, and accident-free environment.  

  • Works closely with our Safety Leadership Team to help plan and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
  • Assists with planning and implementing programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials.
  • Supports all departments in compliance of our Injury & Illness Prevention Program and all other Safety programs. 
  • Conduct inspections, assessments, and works with site leadership teams to address improvement opportunities. 
  • Helps coordinate first aid supplies and assists with PPE requirements. 
  • Supports the investigation of incidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
  • Compiles and submits incident reports required by regulatory agencies 
  • Help maintain safety files and records.
  • Conduct in person and virtual training of employees in safety related processes, procedures, SOP’s, regulatory items, written programs, etc. 
  • Assists with our Contractor Safety Program to include vetting, training and tracking incidents related to contractors while on site. 
  • Maintain ongoing knowledge of Occupational Safety Health Act standards according to state and federal regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to facilitate, direct and motivate employees and organize and coordinate various Safety related training activities. 
  • Must communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, establish and maintain effective relationships with employees. 
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment. 
  • Ability to travel overnight and attend meetings if required. 
  • Ability to remain poised in stressful situations and communicate diplomatically via telephone, computer, fax, correspondence, etc. 
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with confidential information. 
  • Experience with compliance and legal requirements related to safety. 
  • Ability to make independent decisions using knowledge of policies and previous experiences. 
  • Outstanding leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Access programs.
  • Must be a people -person, professional and approachable. 
  • Willingness and ability to follow company and department policies and rules 
  • Exercise good judgment by performing work safely and in conformance with regulatory agencies as well as company standards

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record. 
  • 1-3 years of experience in Health and Safety.
  • Experience with behavior-based safety programs.
  •  Proficiency in Microsoft Office.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Agriculture and/or Food Manufacturing safety experience a plus  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Occasional sitting, standing, climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling and stretching, walking as job requires. 
  • Operate office equipment requires repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard. 
  • Exposure to extreme heat and cold storage environment.
  • Environmental exposure –cold/wet conditions (40 ° or below/subzero temperatures), will work in the warehouse building and, in all plants (indoor and outdoor).
  • May be required to stand/walk for extended period of time during work.
  • Lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight up to 50lbs.


HOURS & WORKDAYS:

Monday through Friday ; Overtime, Weekends, and Holidays may be mandatory based on business needs. Rotating workday/time off schedules may be mandatory depending on department/business needs as well.
