What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cemetery Family Service Counselor position at New Cathedral Cemetery Company?
New Cathedral Cemetery (NCC) is seeking a Family Service Counselor - (Full-time Sales and Memorialization Services) to join our ministry. Our Family Service Counselor is responsible for developing a rapport with clients and family members, with an emphasis on providing excellent customer service. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential for establishing and maintaining professional relationships, which are crucial to the success of this position. This position focuses on providing exceptional customer service, delivering sales presentations, and informing clients and families about the various services offered by NCC, including monuments, memorialization services, cemetery lots, memorial markers, vaults, and other related products.
Essential Functions:
- Provides support to clients and family members, frequently holding face-to-face conversations and meetings
- Provides exemplary personalized service. Plays an essential role in generating revenue for the cemetery
- Utilizes a collaborative approach employing active listening skills that are important to answering /supporting key questions of family members.
- Provides tours of cemetery grounds
- Designs and delivers presentations of services, including cemetery lots, memorialization services across multiple Catholic cemeteries
- Through excellent customer service, creates potential referrals
- Answers telephone inquiries about cemetery products and services
- Assist families with selections involving traditional burial and cremation options, including the sale and design of memorial markers, monuments, urns, and other memorial items.
- As part of a small collaborative office environment, participate in overall cemetery operations, including greeting guests, providing in-person, by-phone, and online customer support, offering location assistance, and maintaining up-to-date sales-related paperwork.
- Complete special assignments from the Cemetery Manager and perform other duties that may arise related to family requests and the course of daily business.
Position Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Three years of experience in in-person customer sales for a service oriented business
- High level of compassion for those we serve through our ministry of caring for the dead and their families
- Above-average communications (oral and written), listening and office administration skills
- Ability to use Excel and Word for reporting and communication.
- Some proficiency in math and experience in contract writing.
- Demonstrated proficiency in problem-solving skills
- Ability to multi-task and set priorities
- Valid driver’s license
Expected Work Hours/Location: Monday-Friday 8:30 to 4PM, some Saturdays by appointment or during events on the property. Work week not to exceed 40 hours. New Cathedral Cemetery is the primary location for this position, though travel to other cemeteries around Baltimore will be required for appointments. When necessary, a cemetery vehicle can be used for sales meetings.
Range: $20.00, Hourly Commission
