What are the responsibilities and job description for the Counselor position at New College of Florida?
This 12-month position will provide individual therapy, group therapy, assessment and referral services, crisis intervention, and psychological consultation, evaluation and support services to currently enrolled students along with other College community members. Provide individual therapy, group therapy, assessment and referral services, crisis intervention, and psychological consultation, evaluation and support services to currently enrolled students along with other College community members.
Provide outreach programming and workshops on a variety of developmental, preventative, and/or psychological topics. This programming may incur some evening and weekend participation on campus.
Provide consultative services to university administrators, faculty, staff, campus organizations and parents.
May initiate and authorize involuntary examination (Baker Act) procedures in accordance with statute 394.463, Florida Mental Health Act.
Maintain current license, practice according to the ethical guidelines of professional organization. Maintain current knowledge on topics relevant to work as a counselor in a higher education setting.
May serve as coordinator of a specific CWC programming area (consistent with interests and level of training) or as designated liaison with specific units on campus as determined by the Director.
Provide training and clinical supervision for center non-licensed staff, with relevant professional degree, in accordance with ethical guidelines, state laws, and Counseling & Wellness policies and procedures.
Maintain Assist the Program Director, the Associate Program Director, and/or Assistant Program Director in developing programmatic initiatives
Will work with counseling, education, and medical records. Maintaining student confidentiality and making independent decisions with regard to legal limits to confidentiality and disclosure will be a core aspect of the work for this position.
May conduct research of a variety of related topics.
May assist in web-based outreach services.
May participate in educational programs.
Other duties as assignedA Masters in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling from an accredited college or university, which includes one year of supervised experience in professional counseling in an internship or licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCWS) or as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) by the State of Florida in accordance with Chapter 490, F.S. May have a Doctorate in psychology from an accredited college or university, which includes one year of supervised experience in professional psychology in an internship and one year of postdoctoral experience in either a hospital or college/university counseling center, or licensure as a psychologist by the State of Florida in accordance with Chapter 490, F.S. The postdoctoral experience may be waived and accrued in this position for up to 12 months.
If active or with a history of physical or mental health condition, must provide a letter from a licensed health care practitioner, who is qualified by skills and training to address the condition identified, which explains the impact the condition may have on the ability to practice the profession with reasonable skill and safety. The letter must specify that the applicant is safe to practice the profession without restrictions or specifically indicate the restrictions that are necessary to enable performance of the essential functions.A Masters from an accredited program in the fields of Mental Health Counseling or Social Work or a doctorate from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited internship. Three years cumulative experience working in a college or university counseling setting, after an accredited internship is preferred. An active/clear license as a LCSW, LMHC, or psychologist by the State of Florida in accordance with Chapter 490, F.S., or licensed in another state and license eligible in the State of Florida within an appropriate amount of time according to board process. Also prefer demonstrated skills in psychotherapy and outreach in a counseling center setting or equivalent.

Salary : $60,000 - $65,000
