Job Summary
New Covenant Academy is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Substitute Nurse. In the absence of the permanent School Nurse, the Substitute Nurse will assist building administrators in providing each student the fullest opportunity to receive a quality education by minimizing absences due to illness, providing nursing care during the school day, and creating a climate of health and well-being in school. Hours and days or as needed.
Qualifications
The Substitute Nurse shall:
- Hold current licensure in the State of Missouri as a registered nurse or a licensed practical nurse.
- Have a sincere desire to work with others in a caring and diplomatic manner and exhibit excellent communication skills.
- Will have good organizational skills and the ability to process and maintain paperwork.
Supervisor
The substitute nurse will report directly to the assigned administrator.
Duties
- In the absence of the permanent school nurse, see and provide general health care to students and faculty.
- Manage the school health office, including the maintenance of school health records.
- Manage a safe medication administration program.
- Assist in monitoring the school's health environment to ensure health and safety.
- Act as liaison between home, school, and community health care providers.
- Collaborate with community resources to meet the needs of children.
- Perform other duties as directed by the assigned principal.
Terms of Employment
Substitute Nurses work on an as-needed basis and are employed according to established school policies. This position is paid at an hourly rate in one-quarter-day increments. This is an “at-will” position, and employment for a time does not guarantee continued employment.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, the ability to adjust focus, and peripheral vision. The employee is frequently required to walk stand; sit; possibly run, stretch; use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display terminal. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel or crouch. Other physical activities may be required related to the physical ability to perform emergency procedures evacuating students out of the classroom (possibly through a window) or following other emergency protocols. This position may require occasional lifting or transport of objects (25-30lbs). Rarely, it may be necessary to lift up to 50 lbs.
