What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Support Specialist position at New Day Recovery Center?
JOB SUMMARY: Peer Support Specialists would be responsible for supporting individuals in recovery from substance use disorder. They would serve as role models, advocates, and mentors to clients. They would help to prevent relapse and promote long term recovery. Peer Support Specialist are expected to share personal recovery experiences and should be respectful of everyone's individualized path.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Assist clients in overcoming treatment barriers and meeting basic needs.
- Lead in group and individual sessions.
- Promote self-sufficiency.
- Peer Support Specialist will support, encourage, and serve as role models.
- Assist clients with developing social and self-advocacy skills.
- Teach clients how to identify and overcome negative self-image.
- Provide education to clients on utilizing recovery skills.
- Educate clients on how to utilize recovery supports.
- Assist clients with goal planning.
- Provide access to resources.
- Offer guidance to support clients facing everyday challenges.
- Complete all required continuing education credits.
- Conduct new client orientation as needed.
- Provide an attentive, respectful, and encouraging environment for clients.
- Provide clients with insight on substance use disorders.
- Attend all mandatory meetings.
- All training and service requirements must remain in compliance with 908 KAR2:220 and 908 KAR 1:370 Section 6.
- Complete all assigned training.
- Complete all duties assigned in a timely manner.
- Complete all other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Previous experience with EHR systems preferred.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Proficient in communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate between departments to provide proficient client care.
- Ability to work with a diverse client population.

- Build rapport with clients while maintaining professional boundaries.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Peer Support Specialist Certification
- CPR Certified (must be obtained within 3 months of employment)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
Schedule:
- 10 hour shift
- 8 hour shift
