Mental Health Clinician – QMHP Youth and Family

General Purpose: Provide culturally competent and appropriate behavioral health treatment for assigned clients mental health. You will provide counseling and education for individuals, couples, families and groups. Additionally you will provide behavioral health services to other community agencies. Coordinates behavioral health services with other community and state resources and do related work as required.

Supervision Received: The Mental Health Clinician is supervised by the Program Manager/Supervisor with input from the Clinical Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Treatment Planning and Client Care:

  • Conducts individual, group and family counseling for clients needing mental health services.

  • Conducts comprehensive evaluations and diagnostic evaluations; develops treatment plans which may include the delivery of medical, mental health, and substance abuse services to include prescribed medications and the maintenance of medication supplies.

  • Provides crisis interventions, counseling, evaluations, and safety planning and related services.

  • Provides consultation, education and information to community agencies that routinely come in contact with individuals with mental or emotional disturbances, such as community providers, police agencies, hospital and emergency rooms and emergency shelters. Governed by a code of ethics of the individual's professional discipline including rules of confidentiality; working knowledge and techniques of comprehensive, community mental health services and the relationship of all mental health disciplines to the field of community pf psychiatry.

  • Provides psychotherapy, counseling, and case management services to individuals, couples, families and groups. This includes interviews to accumulate pertinent data, assess patient problems and develops treatment plans.

  • Develops and conducts various groups and classes providing intensive group therapy.

  • Assists and/or provides back-up support with screening, referral, crisis services as needed and directed by supervisor.

  • Ability to write professional/clinical reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups.

  • Must be able to function independently and be able to seek guidance when necessary.

  • Knowledge of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM V-TR).

  • Good knowledge of a variety of therapeutic interventions and models emphasizing empirically validated interventions.

  • Knowledge of child development, substance abuse issues, family dynamics and group/meeting facilitation.

  • Skill to maintain a professional, confidential work environment.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in an efficient and timely manner.

QUALIFICATIONS;

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Ability to work varied hours including nights, weekends and holidays.

Education/Experience:

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) , Licensed Professional Counseling (LPC), Qualified Mental Heal Provider, (QMHP) with a Master's degree plus one to two years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in Family and Youth Therapy.

Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:

  • Serve as investigator and/or examiner in involuntary commitment procedures or critical incidents after State Licensure.
  • Assists and/or provides back-up support with screening, referral, and crisis services as needed and directed by supervisor.
  • Must have a valid Driver's license.
  • Must have or pass CPR/First Aid certification within the first 6 months of employment.

Knowledge, Skill and Ability:

Governed by a code of ethics of the individual's professional discipline including rules of confidentiality; working knowledge and techniques of comprehensive, community mental health series and the relationship of all mental health disciplines to the field of community of psychiatry; skill in dealing with mentally ill, developmentally disabled and alcohol or drug addicted persons and able to understand the behavior of people under stress; ability to develop cooperative relationships with patients, their families, and the community; ability to maintain a relationship with physicians, law enforcement agencies, the court, public and private administrators and the community in general; ability to interpret community mental health services; ability to prepare concise and completer patient treatment an progress records. Must have the ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally. Must be computer literate and have the ability to type, utilize work processing, and other software systems.
