JOB SUMMARY:  

The Mechanic position is an autonomous role requiring considerable time, effort, professionalism, independence, ingenuity, collaboration, efficiency, integrity, coordination, and determination. The individual who fills this role must be willing and able to fulfill the entire suite of duties, goals, and responsibilities of this position under daily guidance, direction and supervision. 

This is position is required to travel to New Earth locations in Statesboro, Georgia and Eastover, South Carolina and to agriculture farm fields to perform mechanical work as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: 
    1. Highschool or equivalent degree.
    2. Recent tech school graduate considered.
  • Experience
    1. 1 year or more of experience working with modern diesel equipment including semi-trucks, semi-trailers, front-end loaders, and excavators.
    2. Experience with hydraulics a plus.
    3. Experience using modern diesel diagnostic computers and software to diagnose and perform repairs.
    4. Proficient in the use of diagnostic equipment including Diesel Laptops and Snap-on Pro-Link Edge a plus.
  • Certificate/Licensure
    1. Valid driver's license
    2. CDL Class A or B (required)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Provide services ranging from routine maintenance, repairs, and diagnostics.
  • Service, maintain, and repair semi tractors, roll-off trucks, wheel loaders, and forklifts.
  • Willing and able to service equipment in field like conditions (i.e. outdoors in all weather conditions).
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Able to do some manual labor and lift 50lbs.
  • Maintain communication with supervisors and team members.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Ability to pass a drug test.
  • Safe driving record.
  • Other duties as assigned and relevant to position.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:   

  • General knowledge of the mechanical principles, practices and processes.
  • Ability to use proper judgment or action in emergency or crisis situations. 
  • Ability to use personal protective equipment in compliance with OSHA exposure control program. 
  • Ability to work constructively with vendors and customers.
  • General knowledge of office routines and functions is sufficient to refer visitors and telephone calls and to route correspondence.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and applications; skill in gathering, analyzing and evaluating data. 
  • Ability to exercise initiative, apply and adapt policies, principles and techniques to solve everyday problems and deal with a variety of situations. 
  • Ability to develop short and long-term plans and programs and to evaluate work accomplishments. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with management staff, other employees, and the general public. 
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of business and personnel information. 
  • Ability to present facts and recommendations, communicate in a clear, effective, and positive manner in oral and written form.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. 
  • Ability to prioritize and handle pressure due to multiple calls, inquiries, and work assignments within allotted time. 
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply company policies and procedures. 
  • Ability to type and be proficient in the use of computer and office equipment. 
  • Ability to use accuracy in the identification and reporting of data. 
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime and/or weekends. 

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Generally, the employee filling this position will be expected to be present at the project location Monday through Friday for an 8 hour shift and/or as directed by the Fleet Director. May work extended hours including weekends and holidays. Willing and able to service equipment in field-like conditions (i.e. outdoors in all weather conditions).
  • Job functions will be carried out in a vast array of environments including but not limited to maintenance facilities, job sites, customer facilities, vehicles, agricultural sites, landfills, end user facilities, etc.
  • Frequently required to walk, stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, bend, and kneel.
  • Frequently must push, pull, move or lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Regularly required to reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching.
  • Hearing and speech capable of communicating in person and on telephone.
  • Vision capable of viewing monitors, calculators, charts, forms, text and numbers for prolonged periods.
  • Pace varies from moderate to heavy activity; flexibility is important.  
  • Disruptions are frequent, as some problems need immediate attention.  
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. 
  • Office is environmentally controlled.
  • Exposure to outside environmental conditions. 
  • Exposed to hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment.
  • Subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to bio-solids.
  • Subject atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
  • The workplace is in a smoke-free environment.  
  • PPE is required and must be worn as instructed. 
  • Must adhere to all safety requirements.
  • Travel may be required. Occasionally required to travel great distances using all methods of transportation.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS: 

100% - Operates in accordance with the Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements as well as all local, state and federal requirements, Customer and Company expectations for the Fleet department.

  • Participates and cooperates in all scheduled training, briefings, and meetings as required by the Manager.
  • Assist company drivers as directed.
  • Notify Manager of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime and/or weekends

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBIITIES: 

None.



Monday thru Friday and as needed on weekends.
Travel is required to perform mechanical work at New Earth locations in Statesboro, Georgia and Eastover, South Carolina and in surrounding agriculture fields as needed.
