Overview:
NewWoodWorks at New Energy Works is seeking a seasoned Woodworking Project Manager & Cabinet Designer with Cabinet Vision expertise to join our passionate and creative team at NEWwoodworks, our custom woodworking shop in the Finger Lakes region of New York. This client-facing leadership role involves working directly with customers, leading our design and production technology interface, and acting as a bridge between clients and our craftsmen. This position requires a high level of craftsmanship and an extraordinary passion for fine woodworking.
Core Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the design process.
- Design and detail shop/production drawings in Cabinet Vision for custom woodworking projects.
- Collaborate with our in-house architectural department on complex pieces.
- Review project handoff from estimating and ensure complete familiarity with job scope and specifications.
- Coordinate project details with drafting and engineering, setting schedules for submittal completion.
- Oversee and review the submittal process to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Develop a production schedule that aligns with customer requirements and current resources.
- Conduct field measurements to ensure precision in design and production.
- Break down projects into work packages using Lean principles and production schedules.
- Actively contribute to the engineering of complex woodworking and cabinetry items.
- Order job-specific materials based on the production schedule.
- Translate designs into actionable plans for craftsmen and CNC integration.
- Prepare computer models of furniture layouts, incorporating details such as doors, windows, moldings, and trim.
- Consult with clients to determine style, function, and design preferences.
- Manage project timelines and expectations with clients and coworkers.
Required Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience in project management or design, preferably in high-end woodworking.
- Hands-on woodworking experience.
- Expertise in Cabinet Vision for design and detailing.
- Strong understanding of materials, construction techniques, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience integrating designs with CNC production (screen-to-machine workflows).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent time management and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse team of clients, coworkers, and craftsmen.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with reclaimed wood or fine woodworking within timber frames.
- Background in timber framing, industrial design, interior design, or fine arts.
