Opportunity
New England Lab is seeking a Project Estimator for our Woburn, MA. office. Providing a team approach with a focus on detail, accuracy, and meeting deadlines is essential for the success of every bid and our business as a whole. Our ideal candidate has commercial construction experience, the ability to think in 3D and remain detail oriented and focused. This full-time, salary position reports to the Estimating Manager and typical hours are 8am to 5pm M-F.
Role
The position of Project Estimator is responsible for providing a competitive on time bid, which meets the project scope and our client’s intent. Document a complete clear scope with a detailed and accurate estimate of product, man hours and O&P. Responsible for reading and interpreting architectural drawings and specifications for commercial construction, confirming project scope of work, writing RFIs, performing quantity take-offs, preparing estimate proposals and following up on bids as needed. Will provide project and job cost turn over packages. Assist and collaborate with sales and project managers to provide outstanding service. Responsible for maintaining cost controls via relationships with various vendors. Research and negotiating with potential new vendors will be necessary at times.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for knowledge of product line, applications and industries
- Analyze drawings and specifications to ensure that the entire scope of work is understood and has been addressed, accurately forecast the cost, size, and duration of projects
- Conduct unit and assembly take-offs from project plans
- Review architectural specifications and drawings and write timely RFI’s
- Document, organize and maintain project information
- Manage bid process to ensure bid is on time
- Clear understanding of award or road block
- Provide timely and complete bid information to PM’s for projects awarded
- Quality control bids before being sent
- Monitor and respond to phone or email messages promptly
Skills & Competencies
- 2 years’ experience with commercial construction estimating (Division 6, 11 or 12 preferred)
- 1 years’ experience with cabinetry, lab or office furniture and overall construction experience
- HS Diploma required, Associates or Bachelor’s Degree (Mathematics, Accounting, Engineering, Construction technology or related field) a plus
- Division 10 specialties experience a plus
- Ability to read construction documents with attention to detail and focus
- Possess strong computer and mathematical skills and perform accurate analysis within deadlines
- Dependable, driven and possess a strong work ethic
- Strong spatial awareness and ability to think in 3D.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge and experience with MS Office (Word, Outlook and Access)
- Knowledge of On Screen Takeoff preferred
