Job Summary : The person in this position is responsible for the preparation of sterile infusion medications using aseptic technique and assisting the pharmacist in the operational tasks of conducting a home infusion pharmacy. This position has a Monday - Friday schedule during normal business hours.

I. Primary Job Responsibilities

Assists the pharmacist(s) in providing pharmaceutical care for patients ranging in age from newborn to elderly.

Demonstrates the ability to identify and understand the variable dosage requirements of different age groups. Understands the need to consult with the pharmacist if questions / concerns arise.

Accurately prepares intravenous solutions and admixtures in a timely manner according to NELC policies and procedures.

Accurately labels, packages and stores products prior to shipment to patients.

Maintains pharmacy and clean room in a clean, organized and well stocked manner according to NELC policies and procedures.

Assists with daily, weekly and monthly Quality Assurance activities including but not limited to temperature monitoring of product environment and QA testing of compounded batches.

Documents daily compounding statistics and collates daily data for month end report(s) as required.

Generates all daily prescriptions and CII logs as required.

Assists with inventory management functions involving purchasing and receiving drug shipments as well as computer system inventory maintenance.

Contacts infusion patients at regularly scheduled intervals to review clinical status and medication / supply inventory. Updates patient height / weight information in MIS as obtained for nutritional service patients.

Accurately enters all Patient Supply Profiles into MIS to generate delivery tickets for order processing.

Monitors all patients for delivery intervals and follows up with patient or HHA when no delivery has been requested within the past 45 days.

Effectively communicates patient requirements and changes in patient status to appropriate members of the infusion and reimbursement teams in a timely manner.

Demonstrates current knowledge related to all therapies provided by NELC.

Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot problems verbalized by customers yet knows limitations and thus triages calls to appropriate person for assistance as required.

Comprehensively documents all patient related information / conversations in patient’s clinical record (Assessment Forms, MIS & paper record ).

Participates in daily patient care meeting providing updates as required.

II. Other Job Related Duties / Skills

Assists in the completion of quarterly inventory counts as required.

Assists the pharmacist(s) in obtaining outstanding lab results from labs as requested.

Follows NELC policies and procedures in the normal conduction of company business.

Assures that professional practice complies with state and federal regulations including, but not limited to the HIPAA Privacy and Security regulations and NELC’s Corporate Compliance Program.

Ensures that confidentiality of patient information is maintained in accordance with state and HIPAA Privacy and Security regulations.

Participates in company Performance Improvement Program via appropriate completion of Occurrence Reports and Customer Complaints and the offering of recommendations for improvements based on trends noted.

Effectively communicates both verbally & in writing inside and outside the organization; selects appropriate means of communication; questions to seek clarification and understanding; maintains confidentiality; listens actively to others; conveys appropriate information to others.

Participates in ongoing professional development via regular attendance at department meetings, in-services, and other educational programs pertinent to his / her job.

Performs other duties / projects as assigned by direct supervisor.

Adheres to NELC’s professional appearance standards.

Assists the Order Processing Technician / Pharmacist in the picking / packing of products and supplies to be delivered to patients as needed.

Required Qualifications / Skills

Educational / Professional Requirements :

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

One (1) year (minimum) experience in IV admixtures using an IV laminar flow hood in hospital or homecare setting required.

Previous experience in customer service field required.

Previous experience in healthcare field preferred.

Regulatory Requirements :

Certification / Licensure as Pharmacy Technician as required by state specific Board of Pharmacy regulations.

Knowledge of HIPAA Privacy and Security requirements preferred.

Knowledge of the Joint Commission accreditation process preferred.

Skills :

Ability to perform accurate dosage calculations when filling various prescriptions for all age populations required.

Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instruction provided in written, oral and diagram formats required.

Ability to recognize inappropriate dosing based in available dosing forms for various age groups required.

Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel and customers required.

Excellent organizational skills required.

Knowledge / practical experience with microcomputer systems such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook) required.

Dependability in attendance and job performance required.

Ability to communicate effectively with patients and all levels of NELC staff.Physical Demands : See attached description
