The Berkshire Eagle, one of the most respected community newspapers in the U.S., seeks one general assignment and one business news reporter to join a talented team breaking news in a unique western New England region.
The Eagle is an audience-first, digital news organization that produces a traditional newspaper downstream in the process. The Eagle is locally owned and operated, not loose change in a venture capital portfolio.
The Eagle is growing paid circulation because of the journalism we produce. We sustain our momentum by hiring insightful and committed storytellers who believe in the calling of community journalism and seek to practice it in a dynamic area abounding with natural beauty and yet close to New York and Boston.
We’re looking for self-starters with a strong track record in daily journalism. Candidates must be interested in everything about public life and able to work fluidly on digital story-telling platforms to ensure we remain the leading source of news and information in Berkshire County, Massachusetts.
Candidates must bring proof they know how to find and write fresh and engaging jargon-free stories, whether it’s breaking news or in-depth features. Our reporters write and report for readers, helping them to understand why a story matters.
Our new team members will work closely with editors and other colleagues to ensure their coverage is relevant, interesting to read, well-designed and engaging.
We give our reporters significant leeway in helping to set The Eagle’s news agenda. Because of that, we depend on reporters to develop deep source networks and spend time mining for story angles, not churning through press releases. Along with a daily diet of quick hits, our reporters generate enterprise and investigative stories, either alone or in teams. Our digital and print teams take their hard work and make it sing on screens and on pages.
