What are the responsibilities and job description for the Geo-Environmental Specialist position at New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co., Inc.?
The Geo-Environmental Specialist is responsible for supporting NESL under the direction of the Geo-Environmental Manager to include completing permits to governmental agencies to fulfill mining requirements/needs; researching geologic resources for future development, ensuring compliance with regulations; providing training and knowledge to coworkers dealing with regulated government programs; and managing real estate.
The salary range begins at $60K, depending on experience.
Geo-Environmental Specialist - What Will You Do?
Develop and maintain monitoring programs to meet corporate goals. (10-20%)
- Collecting samples from designated points at various sites.
- Ensuring site inspections are performed as appropriate.
- Maintaining permitted disposal records.
Corporate property management (5-20%)
- Managing property and building maintenance and lease on various sites.
- Assisting with exploration and maintenance as required.
Governmental compliance (50-70%)
- Submitting reports to various governmental agencies.
- Sampling, documentation, and management of compliance-related issues.
- Ensuring site-specific special conditions are met.
- Managing unstaffed and inactive sites.
- Providing training and knowledge to coworkers.
Manages administrative tasks (10%)
- Creating financial feasibility studies for processes and plans.
- Managing accounting for vendors and subcontractors.
- Managing corporate compliance with company mandated programs.
- Updating upper management of trends and issues related to areas of expertise.
- Assisting with financial planning.
- Keeping appropriate stakeholders apprised of relevant issues in area of expertise.
Develop and maintain blasting programs. (5-20%)
- Working with quarry Superintendents to create a blasting program that meets plant and production specific needs.
- Creating blast plans for governmental agencies and working with supervisors to implement plans.
- Providing guidance on blasting regulations and performance issues.
- Interacting and coordinating with contractors, local municipalities and neighbors to minimize blasting complaints.
Other Functions:
- Representing corporate interests in public settings.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Requirement - Who Are We Looking For?
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, or Geology. Substantial and equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience.
- Experience with AutoCAD and other engineering or mapping software.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current mining regulations and processes.
- Ability to build professional relationships with leaders and external networks.
- Excellent customer service orientation.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Must possess strong attention to detail, good organizational skills with the ability to ensure accurate work.
- Ability to be persuasive & collaborative.
- Ability to work independently but as part of a team concept.
- Flexibility and the ability to operate under stressful, time-sensitive deadlines.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) or related database systems.
- Valid driver’s license and compliant with NESL's Minimum Driving Standards.
