What are the responsibilities and job description for the Heavy Equipment Trainer position at New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co., Inc.?
The Heavy Equipment Trainer is responsible for formalizing and standardizing NESL’s overall training process in heavy equipment operations. The Trainer will develop, implement, and maintain a training program across all lines of business. Training focuses will include MSHA/OSHA compliance, alignment with industry best practices, and semi-autonomous maintenance. As part of this, the Trainer will be a key contributor in NESL’s strategy to attract, develop, and retain talent.
Essential Functions - What Will You Do?
- Create a training process that promotes full competency and expert operations of equipment.
- Establish clear standards and expectations to define full competency and expert operations.
- Develop an outcomes-based approach through mentorship and blended trainings that include classroom lessons and field experiences.
- Develop comprehensive trainings to quickly upskill entry-level or inexperienced operators.
- Identify and develop field trainers to conduct on-the-job trainings through a formal process. Field trainers will act as an extension of the Heavy Equipment Trainer and should be experts in safety, quality product, efficient operations, and semi-autonomous maintenance.
- Lead additional training segments including new hire, annual refreshers, and remedial training.
- Collaborate with field trainers and supervisors to ensure that trainings provided in the field are adequate and supportive of operations.
- Create, maintain, and validate training documentation and assessments.
- Define and articulate NESL’s training value proposition in terms of workforce development, retention, and operational efficiency. This includes periodic reports and updates on the overall training program and its outcomes.
- Assist hiring managers, supervisors, and forepersons in identifying talent, aptitude, and positive attitudes.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications - Who Are We Looking For?
- Formal education in training methodologies required. Bachelor’s degree preferred, but certificate programs are also acceptable.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant work experience related to heavy equipment management and heavy equipment training.
- Demonstrated knowledge of appropriate MSHA/OSHA standards as well as safe operating practices.
- Proven ability to motivate and drive others to excellence.
- Demonstrated skills in building professional relationships and collaborating across a matrix organization.
- Excellent customer service orientation with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently but as part of a team concept.
- Basic proficiency in using Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel,). Experience in database or learning management systems preferred.
- Capable of working flexible hours.
- Valid driver’s license and compliant with NESL Driving Standards. Commercial driver’s license preferred.
