What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Engineer position at New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co., Inc.?
The Project Engineer is an introductory position assigned to the Project Management Department within the Heavy Highway Construction Division. The purpose of this position is to gain experience in many different aspects of construction within NESL. Over time, the incumbent will gain meaningful onsite construction experience via rotational field assignments. After the rotational field assignment period is complete, the incumbent could then consider a career path which best fits their interests and/or capabilities.
Project Engineer - What Will You Do?
- Track pay item quantities and incidental factor quantities for cost history. Review daily daily/weekly/monthly cost reports for accuracy.
- Review and prepare bi-weekly and monthly pay estimates for PA DOT, PTC, or other owners.
- Daily review of time sheets (FDRs) for correct cost codes, quantities, comments, and/or other pertinent information.
- Assist the superintendent/project manager in ordering materials and scheduling subcontractors.
- Provide information for and/or update project CPM Schedules.
- Maintain an updated submittal log.
- Interact with the owner daily, reviewing projects and quantities.
- Process subcontractor pay estimates.
- Assist project manager in the preparation and maintenance of material source of supplies, purchase orders, subcontractor agreements, project budgets, waste/borrow areas, and value engineering.
- Develop proficiency in the use of NESL Costing System, Primavera CPM Scheduling, ECMS (PA DOT), and HeavyJob.
- Help to complete short-term job schedules and weekly cost projections with foreperson and superintendents.
- Spend time with crews in the field observing, assisting, and documenting the following observations: Traffic Control Pattern Monitoring, Pre-Blast Surveys and Vibration Monitoring, and assist with safe planning of work activities and JHAs.
- Assist with Quality Control related to Subbase Compaction, Concrete Testing, and Asphalt Testing.
Requirements - Who Are We Looking For?
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Civil Engineering or related field, Associates in Construction Management, and/or related experience.
- Familiarity with construction and construction-related activities.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Knowledge of estimating/scheduling software is a plus.
- Strong analytical, organization, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong math skills.
