New Foundations Home for Children is a private, nonprofit treatment agency specializing in caring for emotionally troubled children, adolescents, and families. The Council on Accreditation nationally accredits us. New Foundations provides an array of programs to meet the increasing demands for quality children and family services.

With that goal in mind, New Foundations offers both intervention and prevention services. Services include several programs of residential care as well as programs designed to work with children and families on an outpatient basis or in their home environments.
Position Overview
Under General supervision provides direct care and supervision to clients in a safe, structured environment that fosters the development of appropriate behaviors and provides supervision to part time counselors as needed. This is a high demand position that requires a flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of clients and families.
Essential Job Functions

- Creates and facilitates an atmosphere that is most conducive to the growth, success, and safety of the clients
- Supervises and documents client’s weekly behavior and provides therapeutic interventions as needed
- Participates in weekly care team meetings as requested and provides input on clients
- Provides leadership for part time counselors in the absence of unit managers, or supervisors. Leadership role and responsibilities are limited to an as needed basis in the absence of supervisory staff
- Must be able to perform physical restraints based on TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) training requirements and demonstrate competency in all aspects of TCI training
- Provides supervision of clients. Clients must be always in eyesight of staff while engaged in on/off campus New Foundations activities
- Counselors must initiate, engage, and participate in a full range of activities with clients. Including but not limited to recreational, educational, social, and group activities
- Counselors must maintain a positive, and respectful interaction with clients
- Counselors must communicate any safety concerns immediately to supervisor. i.e., client safety and environmental safety
- Completes all required documentation prior to leaving the assigned shift, to include but not limited to, daily counseling notes, incident reports, medicine logs, maintenance inspection checklist
- Counselors must check email and respond accordingly on a weekly basis
- Counselors must maintain a valid driver’s license and comply with DSS regulatory requirements, and agency liability insurance requirements
- Counselors are required to always follow New Foundations policies and procedures when acting on behalf of New Foundations
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED and one year of social service program experience
- Practical knowledge of treatment of emotional and behavioral child and adolescent disturbances
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- Considerable knowledge of individual and group behavioral traits, special emphasis on students’ needs and behavioral patterns
- Ability to intervene effectively in a crisis
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and manually
- Valid Driver’s License with a driving record that meets the agency requirements
- Must complete and pass background checks to include criminal history, must not be listed on the DSS Central Registry for child abuse or neglect, and must not be listed on the state or federal Sex Offender Registry. Background checks are completed before hire and annually going forward
Training Requirements
- At the time of employment Counselors must complete and pass Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training, processes and policy training, CPR, First Aid, bus training, and minimum 8 hours of observation training
- Counselors must complete and pass annual refresher Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training, processes and policy refresher training, CPR, and First Aid. If the annual training is not completed this will result in being removed from the work schedule.
- Some specialized training may be required throughout each year
