Reports To: Occupational Therapist
Job Summary: The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) will work under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist to provide rehabilitative services to residents.
The OTA will assist in implementing treatment plans designed to help residents achieve their highest level of independence and improve their quality of life.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Occupational Therapist in the implementation of individualized treatment plans for residents.
- Provide direct therapy services to residents as prescribed by the Occupational Therapist.
- Monitor and document resident progress and report findings to the Occupational Therapist.
- Educate residents and their families on therapeutic activities and exercises to be performed at home.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and facility regulations regarding occupational therapy services.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of therapy sessions in the resident's medical record.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss resident care plans and progress.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and clean therapy environment.
Qualifications:
- Must be licensed or otherwise regulated as an Occupational Therapy Assistant by the state in which practicing, if applicable.
- Must have graduated from an Occupational Therapy Assistant education program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) or its successor organizations.
- Must be eligible for certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant by the American Occupational Therapy Association or another comparable body.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with residents, families, and staff.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move residents as needed.
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical activities for extended periods. Work Environment:
- The position is based in a skilled nursing facility and may require working with residents who have various physical and cognitive impairments.
