New Freedom’s Correctional Services Specialist (Behavioral Health Technician) is a dedicated and experienced professional working in the prison environment and in collaboration with the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation, and Reentry (ADCRR) program. In this role, you will serve as a professional role model for a group of assigned clients working on their re-entry, exhibiting competency in personal recovery and coping skills while facilitating therapeutic client groups. This role provides advanced intake services to clients who are participating in this in-prison program, including overseeing the intake process, reviewing and validating all assessments and collaborating with department leadership regarding treatment plan recommendations specific to individual and group client/client needs. This position requires a thorough understanding of the company’s and ADCRR’s philosophy of treatment, admission processes, and program criteria. This role is responsible for ensuring that clinical and administrative services are provided for clients in partnership with the clinical team and other cross functional departments.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follow the assigned client group curriculum format and schedule.
  • Recommend enhancements to the curriculum based on client needs and seek approval for implementation.
  • Document group facilitation and maintain all required client documentation associated with assigned groups.
  • Continuously develop enhanced group facilitation and classroom management techniques to keep clients engaged.
  • Gather ongoing feedback to ensure group content and delivery are meaningful and relevant to clients' successful re-entry.
  • Assist clients in articulating personal recovery goals through group sessions and activities.
  • Observe and document client behavior, report any concerns or unusual behavior to the therapist.
  • Support clients in various daily living activities to facilitate re-entry and recovery processes.
  • Assess client mood changes and take appropriate steps to modify actions or alert medical/therapist professionals when necessary.
  • Assist clients in identifying and creating recovery goals and developing plans to achieve them.
  • Support clients in working with their Client Care Team to determine steps for self-directed recovery outside of group.
  • Encourage ongoing individual and group sessions for a successful re-entry experience.
  • Assist clients in building social skills to enhance successful completion of in-prison curriculum and programming.
  • Recommend direct support for clients to the treatment team based on group interactions or observations.
  • Complete all necessary documentation within 24 hours of service provided.
  • Complete client intake roles and responsibilities, providing assessment and treatment planning reviews, as well as ongoing support, training, and coaching.
  • Ensure adherence to intake and treatment planning processes, suggesting ongoing process improvements.
  • Possess advanced knowledge of all Intake Specialist functions, including initiating paperwork, conducting assessments, and coordinating client consent and understanding.
  • Collaborate with the clinical team and cross-functional client support departments to make diagnostic and treatment planning decisions based on intake assessments.
  • Effectively meets any/all outlined Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), ensuring the highest quality and level of member care and engagement is provided.
  • Receives and actively engages in clinical supervision and oversight each week/month based on BHPP/BHT designation requirements, including completion of all continuing education requirements.
  • Complete any other related duties as assigned.

Experience

Required
  • Excellent professional and ethical boundaries across all aspects of the Correctional Services Specialist and client therapeutic relationship
  • Excellent communication, organizational, time management, and critical thinking and problem-solving skills required
  • Effectively demonstrates versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
  • Effectively collaborates and works within a team, while also effectively demonstrating the ability to take initiative and work well individually
  • 1 year(s): Excellent facilitation techniques, best practices, and proven success in a similar peer-led model, with a minimum of one (1) year of experience facilitating group(s) required
  • Specialized training in the following areas: managing aggressive behavior, interpersonal skills, abnormal psychology, chemical dependency and counseling, recovery, and re-entry
  • 2 year(s): Prior experience in a similar role at the level of Behavioral Health Technician or higher (2 years behavioral health work experience and/or higher education)
  • Successful recovery and direct work experience in similar behavioral health setting is required
  • Adherence to all ADCRR policies, regulatory requirements, and criteria to work at onsite prison locations and within the ADCRR program
  • Comfortable working in a prison environment providing direct and group client services
  • Willingness to travel as required to complete intakes, class facilitation, and to fulfill all program criteria
  • Ability to work remotely as needed
Preferred
  • Peer Support Specialist Certification and lived experience relevant for our client population preferred
