Summary :
As the Peer Support Program Director you will play a pivotal role in shaping and expanding our peer support program to align with the organizations mission and goals. Drawing from your own experiences you will provide guidance advocacy and program development to support individuals navigating mental health and substance use challenges.
We are seeking a compassionate leader with strong organizational skills deep empathy and an understanding of the unique needs of those facing these challenges. While this role currently has no direct reports we are looking for a visionary professional with an entrepreneurial mind and the passion to grow the program as needed. Your leadership skills will be instrumental in fostering a supportive and empowering environment for those we serve.
Essential Duties :
Knowledge of peer support principles values and ethics.
Provide peer support services to a small caseload of consumers as outlined in the Peer Support essential duties (see below).
Conduct or organize training sessions to enhance the skills knowledge and effectiveness of the peer support team. Ensure ongoing professional development and stay updated on best practices.
Collaborate with the peer support team to conduct or organize weekly support group sessions.
Assist team members in handling complex cases provide guidance on interventions and support individuals facing mental health or substance use challenges.
Monitor the quality of services provided by the team and ensure adherence to ethical standards policies and best practices in peer support.
Collaborate with management to develop and improve peer support programs and identify areas for growth or enhancement based on team feedback and outcomes.
In collaboration with the deputy director c onduct regular performance evaluations provide constructive feedback and address any issues or challenges within the team.
Build and maintain partnerships with other mental health providers community organizations and stakeholders to enhance the reach and effectiveness of peer support services.
Ensure accurate and timely documentation of interactions services provided and outcomes achieved. Generate reports for management or funders as required.
Advocate for the importance of peer support within the mental health / substance abuse systems promote awareness and educate others about the benefits of peerled interventions.
Offer guidance and support to team members dealing with crisis situations and ensure they have the necessary resources and assistance.
Attend individual supervision and team meetings with the deputy director and participate in training opportunities as necessary and required.
Collaborate with the program QP (deputy director) to assess their own strengths and areas of growth and develop a supervision plan.
Perform other duties tasks and special projects as assigned.
Peer Support Specialist Essential Duties
Conduct consumer engagement in accordance with NHCDC Peer Support Specialist standard operating procedures.
Meet with assigned consumers weekly either physically or virtually based on the consumer s preferences and needs to provide advice and support per their PersonCentered Plans (PCP).
Assist with the development of a crisis plan and help consumers identify supportive individuals and resources when in crisis. Update the crisis plan as needed.
Enter weekly discussions and progress updates in the NHCDC database within 48 hours after the meeting and update the PCP monthly.
Provide a minimum of three virtual peer support groups and one physical support group per month.
Support / assist consumers in daily decisionmaking and resolution of minor problems.
Assist clients by finding resources advising the consumer of processes and encouraging followthrough with proposed resolutions.
Assist consumers with applications referrals and access to essential services such as housing employment food transportation and health care. Locate social activities or provide other assistance as needed.
Participate in meetings of community groups to advocate for consumer needs leading recovery dialogue / selfhelp sessions with consumers.
Foster the consumer s development of healthy relationships by encouraging participation in community activities.
Promote the consumer s opportunity for personal growth by identifying teachable moments for building relationship skills to empower the consumer and enhance personal responsibility.
Promote selfadvocacy by facilitating each consumer s learning about his or her human and legal rights and support the consumer while they exercise those rights.
Observe behavior and evidence of general wellbeing and discuss observations with the consumers.
Recognize and appropriately respond to conditions that constitute an emergency including both physical and behavioral health crises utilizing the emergency response procedure of NHCDC.
Model effective coping and selfhelp techniques to individuals or groups of consumers
Provide advice to consumers on empowerment skills and successful community living.
Inform consumers on community resources and how to use them appropriately providing information to consumers and families on specific topics as assigned.
Requirements
High School Diploma or GED or equivalent
1 year of experience working with people with the population supported
CPR first aid NCI and / or rolerelated certification a plus
Certified as a Peer Support Specialist or 1 continuous year as a current or former recipient of treatment (including mental health / substance abuse treatment or diagnosis) and eligibility for certification as Peer Support Specialist by the governing agency
Keen and genuine interest in servicing individuals experiencing mental health / substance abuse challenges.
Strong ability to manage lead and work within a team structure.
Ability to build trust and maintain strong and effective working relationships with individuals facing mental health / substance abuse challenges.
Must demonstrate sensitivity to diverse cultures backgrounds and identities to establish meaningful connections and provide culturally appropriate support.
Ability to adapt to various situations and environments as well as being flexible in providing support tailored to individual needs
Maintaining professional boundaries while offering support and practicing selfcare to prevent burnout.
Must complete a minimum of twenty (20) hours of training specific to the required components of the specific service definition including crisis response within the first 90 days of employment
Knowledge of pertinent community resources including public assistance supportive services employment and housing support.
Must have strong organizational and excellent time management skills.
Strong writing presentation and communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and direct communication skills to express ideas succinctly orally and in writing.
Proficient in utilizing traumainformed care deescalation and crisisintervention techniques.
Ability to keep appointments punctually be organized and demonstrate accountability and follow through.
Ability to problemsolve and make decisions in chaotic and / or stressful situations
Valid driver s license and automotive insurance
Ability to pass a background check and drug screen
