St. Charles School, a program of Catholic Charities New Hampshire, is looking for a Lifeguard for their Summer School Program, on a Part Time (25 hours/week) basis, to join our team. This position runs from June 30 – July 25, 8:00 – 1:30.
St. Charles Summer School is for children currently registered at the school. Students will swim in three groups during their daily activities for 45 -50 min per group. The three groups range in grades as follows; Primary (k-3), Elementary (4-6) and Middle (7-8). Our Summer School consists of structured activities, free play and daily swimming.
The Lifeguard will ensure that the children are safe at all times and always within observation while they are in the pool area. They will be required to provide CPR/AED and First Aid services if the need should arise. They will also instruct campers in water safety and swimming.
Job Responsibilities Duties
• Maintain a safe and fun environment for children
• Recognize and implement safety standards in all program activities
• Organize, schedule, and provide water safety and swim lessons
• Ensure that all child safety protocols are followed and enforce all pool rules
• Responsible for proper opening and closing of the pool each day
• Obtain the pool key from the lock box located in the house and safeguard the key while the pool is in use
• Secure the pool gate with the lock at the end of the day and returning the key to the lock box in the house
• Maintain pool area and all equipment to include, but not limited to rescue tubes, first aid kit, life jackets and pool furniture.
• Communicate positively with parents and staff as required
• Attend safety meetings and other in-service training as required
Requirements
• High School Diploma or GED
• Red Cross Lifeguard and Lifeguard Instructor Certification
• Must possess and maintain CPR/AED, First Aid certificaton
• 1-2 years of experience working with children in a structured setting is preferred
Physical Demands
• Frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
• Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information
• Must be able to maintain energy and alertness standing for long periods of time; must be able to move quickly as needed to maintain student safety; must be able to walk up and down stairs without difficulty.
• Must be able rescue a 100 pound child from the water
• Working with children who have behavioral issues makes significant mental and emotional as well as physical demands
