The State of New Hampshire, Department of Health and Human Services, New Hampshire Hospital has a Full-Time vacancy for Psychologist.
Summary: Professional level of diagnosis, psychological treatment, clinical supervision, and collaborative consultation. Works under the administrative supervision of the Therapeutic Services Director or designee.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) from a college of university accredited by the American Psychological Association with major study in clinical psychology.
Experience : Five years’ experience in clinical psychology, two of which shall have been in a clinical or hospital setting supervised by a doctoral-level psychologist who is licensed by a State Board of Professional Psychologists. Any practical clinical work not included in the specific education requirement as outlined above may be counted as experience. For example, practicums, clerkships, externships, internships, assistantships, and clinical services rendered in connection with gathering data for dissertation may be utilized to fulfill the experience.
License/Certification: Psychology license must be current and in good standing according to the NH Board of Psychologists. Candidates not currently possessing a New Hampshire license must obtain it during the initial probationary period. Positions at the Division of Juvenile Justice Services require only an endorsement as School Psychologist by the State Board of Education.
Special Requirements : Prior to appointment, applicants applying for this position must submit official document attesting to the experience requirement of this classification.
Responsibilities:
- Administers and analyzes psychological test batteries and clinical assessment interviews with acute psychiatric in-patients in a timely fashion for cognitive assessment, personality and psychiatric diagnoses, treatment and to assist the treatment team in discharge planning.
- Provides expert clinical consultation to psychiatrist, neurologist, treatment team, guardian, aftercare agencies, judicial hearings.
- Works closely with psychiatric providers and as needed, other team members, demonstrating excellent communication and collaboration to promote high quality patient care.
- Determines and provides psychological treatment including but not limited to crisis intervention; individual, behavioral and group therapy; cognitive training to acute psychiatric in-patients with severe impairment; provides family counseling when indicated.
- Consults with nursing and other staff about management of difficult patients.
- Completes timely progress notes and other required documentation.
- Provides clinical supervision of doctoral level psychology interns, graduate students, and psychologists with provisional privileges.
- Attends and contributes to continuing education of peers and allied professionals.
- Participates in and suggests Psychology Q.A. audits and clinical program evaluation efforts.

Supervisors Workplace Safety Accountabilities
Ensure compliance with established hospital and departmental safety policies and procedures by:
- Conducting periodic (minimum quarterly basis) on site reviews.
- Completing competency-based review, when applicable.
- Providing on the spot reinforcement/training on safety issues; referring staff to formal training programs, as appropriate.
- Recording safety related initiatives for annual reporting.
