COORDINATOR, ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION (ADR) Program – The Coordinator is supervised by and follows direction from the Circuit Court Administrative Judge or designee and the Chief Justice of the Superior Court or designee. The Coordinator guides the operations and ensures the high quality of multiple existing and potential future ADR programs in the Supreme, Circuit and Superior Courts. Close working relationships with the trial court administrators will be expected. Position includes budget management and some ADR grant management responsibilities, as well the expectation to pursue future ADR program grants in keeping with the goals of the courts. Ensuring accurate statistical information for ADR programs will be expected of the Coordinator.
In consultation/collaboration with court administrators, the Coordinator will be expected to provide ADR information and education to judges, marital masters, referees and court staff. Coordinator will often serve as judicial branch liaison with lawyers, mediators, and representatives of various agencies/groups who use the courts. The workload of this position includes researching, recommending, developing, evaluating, enhancing and sun-setting various ADR programs in keeping with the changing needs of the courts. Employee in this position may be required to travel during the regular course of business, and is subject to transfer or reassignment at the discretion of the Administrative Judge of the Circuit Court and the Chief Justice of the Superior Court.
DESIRABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university in a related discipline with an advanced degree desirable and a law degree preferred.
Experience: Substantive training in mediation/arbitration and related experience preferred. Court or related administrative work required with proven experience in program administration. Substitution of appropriate experience and training for educational requirements will be considered by the hiring authority.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
- Researches ADR programs to address the changing needs of and diminishing resources available to the state courts.
- Recommends ADR programs and program enhancements to improve court services and efficiencies.
- Develops and evaluates court-annexed ADR programs.
- Monitors ADR programs and develops quality assurance mechanisms for court-annexed ADR programming.
- Gathers statistical information about the usage and effectiveness of court-annexed ADR programming.
- Develops and delivers ADR training, education, information to judicial officers, court staff and ADR providers.
- Engages in court-based ADR on a limited basis as necessary to meet the goals of various ADR program initiatives.
- Serves as judicial branch liaison to agencies and court users with regard to court-annexed ADR programming.
- Assists in the development of ADR-related forms, manuals and procedures for use in the courts.
- Participates in the formulation of short and long-range plans for court-annexed ADR programs.
- Manages and/or monitors grants related to court-annexed ADR programming.
- Assists Administrative Office of the Courts with financial recordkeeping for funds collected/spent pursuant to RSA 490-E:4
- Performs other non-ADR duties as assigned by the Administrative Judge of the Circuit Court or designee and the Chief Justice of the Superior Court or designee.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
- Requires self-motivation with minimal instruction in completing assignments.
- Requires working independently and effectively with a wide range of people, including court personnel, judges, general public, New Hampshire Bar Committee members, ADR professionals, state agency directors and legislators and also requires:
- Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of alternative dispute resolution.
- Considerable knowledge of court rules and procedures, legal documents, laws and legal factors pertaining to the court.
- Knowledge of the organization, functions and responsibilities of the court.
- Ability to organize, direct and coordinate the administrative activities of the programs within various courts or on a statewide basis.
- Ability to express ideas on a wide range of subjects clearly, concisely, orally and in writing.
- Ability to perform all duties with minimum instruction and supervision.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must successfully pass a criminal record check.
